Random Thoughts

Something I’ve learned in the last year is most of the time life is boring, and that’s okay. Sometimes there is nothing exciting going on that merits a blog post. I post the majority of days, but most are about running and training and, of course, diner reviews. I haven’t posted about personal life in a few weeks, and that’s because I’ve just been boring.  While I have other interests outside of running, for the most part, it is a running-oriented blog.  I’ve been racing so much that between racing and training posts, half of my blog week is filled!

In thinking out loud, my day consists of I going for a run, going to work and then coming home watching TV and sleeping. Lather, rinse, repeat with a few a diner dates in there too.

Here are a few random blurbs:

Music I’ve been enjoying:
I recently downloaded a Ke$ha remix CD, and I love it. The music is fun to listen to while running.  If you are looking for something fast, slightly vulgar and pop…this is your CD.

Running Shoe Rotation:
I’ve gotten a few questions about my running shoe choices Right now I’m currently running in these:
Saucony Triumph ISO 2 (majority of runs)
Saucony Zealot (warm up and cool downs, occasional weekly run)
Altra Paradigm 1.5 (once a week)
Nike Pegasus (sporadically 1-2X per week…review to come)
Saucony A6 (racing)
That is my current shoe rotation.

TV Shows I’m Watching:
America’s Next Top Model: I’ve watched every season of ANTM, and I’m sad this is supposedly the last season. Now what I will do?
Bar Rescue
Restaurant Impossible

What’s been going on life wise?
Honestly like I said, I’ve just been running, working and getting ready for the Philadelphia Marathon weekend. Not only for myself but with work too. We’ve been a little bit busier with the end of cross country season as well as the end of North East marathon season.

Yesterday I opted to run a 5k on base instead of doing my “regular” one-mile repeats. I’ve always wanted to get a turkey from a turkey trot and the stars aligned.  I ran a 19:30 and felt completely awful.  I’ll probably do a race recap since it was technically a race but, in summary, it was windy, my legs were still sore from my deep tissue massage, but I still had a good time.

  1. Love Andy Grammer’s “Honey, I’m Good”.

I’m running, doing yoga, cooking, decluterring, cleaning, taking Chester to the vet, walking the dogs . . . same old, same old here to.

  2. I’ve also watched every season of ANTM (a lot of them multiple times..great show to binge watch) and I’m honestly kind of glad that it’s ending. The seasons lately have been really annoying and I’m not a fan of the direction. If you’re looking for a good replacement, Australia’s Next Top Model is on Hulu and it’s a really great show! In some ways I like it better than the American version.

    • I am glad you agree Gretchen. I’m definitely sad but similar to you I’m not sure I’m actually surprised. I feel like since they added the men, it went downhill!

  3. I recently took a test that revealed I have no life due to my training. I swim 3 times a week, run 4 ,bike 3 and weight room 2 times a week. Since I work 3 days a week, I have to work that into my schedule as well. My life is on repeat but I have to look at th schedule to see what I’m doing.

  4. Haha i won a turkey once at a race. I don’t like turkey though so I ended up donating it to a homeless shelter. Lately my life has been similar- run, work, eat, sleep repeat. Sometimes it’s more exciting than others but if I have nothing to blog about, I don’t see the point either.

  5. I’ve been listening to the new Missy Elliot song WTF and doing a lot or work, home, run, rinse, repeat too. Sometimes that just happens!

  6. did you win that turkey? because thats a pretty awesome race prize! i like kesha for workout music it has a great beat even if she is autotuned like crazy lol.

  7. Hi hollie, well not much in my life though I just moved to gravyard shift.
11Pm-730am. It tough trying to adjust my running scheadual. Getting dark earlier now. So gotta run in mid afternoon. Usally after work if go staight from there to a 5k race I’ve done it , it not bad hard to get Friday night’s off at my job. So I gotta bear with it and run.
I’ve had good runs and decent runs,
I’ve had a good year in running ,i lack on track workouts, need to get back on that soon.
As for music I’m a 70s, 80s music, not sure if u have any good songs u like from those years.
    I hope your doing well,
good luck in your half this weekend, hope to see you at a turkey trot next week.
    Happy running.

  8. Congratulations on winning a turkey at the turkey trot! I like Thanksgiving themed runs that are NOT the day of Thanksgiving and think there should be more, that way people who have to travel the morning of or cook can participate. We have a race here that used to do turkeys as awards but PETA put a stop to it (really ironic bc it was a small-ish church race, in a rural area, and I didn’t realize PETA had that much of a presence in the South).

I also love your Exit 3.1 shirt! I’m thinking that’s a local running store thing but you guys have some neat shirts.

Right now I’m enjoying any music but Christmas music. It’s still too hot for Christmas music.

  9. Ke$ha is awesome running music! I was on a hard core Ke$ha kick in 2011; maybe I will have to bring her back into the mix. I’ve been running to Missy Elliott and Young Fathers a lot. I should do a general life post like this. 🙂

  10. We missed our diner date. I know when Tim is home it’s important for you to spend time together, so I hope we can get together soon! The holidays are making things even more hectic. I’m sure it’s hectic for you at work, too! AHHH.

  11. I was totally thinking about that earlier – wanting to write but feeling like, “I don’t have anything to say…I think?” This post is a good reminder that we should chronicle the times in between the “memorable” too.

I’ve been running to a lot of old late 90s jams lately (Sugar Ray, Smashmouth, etc.). Those lyrics never seem to go away 🙂
