It’s hard to believe the month of June has finished. I think that is how I open each monthly training post. The cliff notes version of June was I ran healthy and happy.
Mileage: 243 (the exact same mileage as last month…not on purpose!)
Rest Days: 5
Range of Paces: 6:08-10:55-untimed
Shortest Run: 1.75 warmup
Longest Run: 13.1 miles
Races:
Scott Coffee 8k (32:44)
Woodbury 5k (19:40)
Flag Day Trail 10k (45:40)
Striders Independence 10k (41:21)
Thoughts:
I only did one 5k this month! I planned to do more but I chose other race distances available. Despite none of my races being close to a PR, I enjoyed myself in June. June of 2014 was my last healthy month before getting multiple injuries. In 2014, I got plantar fasciitis at the end of the month followed by a stress fracture in August.
June was a good month to me this year. I have slowly been adding more mileage as well as keeping healthy and injury free. I feel my speed and strength coming back, it is just taking longer than I would have hoped!
I did the same amount of mileage in both May and June, however, my mileage this month was more productive for a few reasons.
1. I ran longer races. The 10k takes twice as long to recover as the 5k. I’m still recovering from last week. I took more rest days this month.
2. Despite the heat, my paces are improving.
3. I’ve added a few striders and fartleks. The quality of my training runs are much better.
July Goals and Races:
July 4th Firecracker 5k
July 11th: Belmar Chase 5 miler
Right now I only have a few races planned in July. I will add more but I have to look and see what is available!
Training goals:
- My main goals of July are to stay healthy, strong and consistent.
- My secondary goals are to add mileage and speed work.
- Finally my time goal is to consistently run a sub 20 minute 5k.
Questions for you:
Do you have any plans on July 4th?
How was your month of July?
Might be doing the Belmar race as well… I’m in Asbury for the summer come visit!
I would absolutely love that Jacqueline! Send me a message and maybe we could coordinate a post race diner date?
Looks like you had a great June! Nice work staying healthy. That is my primary goal for July as well. I’m excited for the long weekend – will be hanging with friends and doing lots of relaxing! 🙂
I’m still getting used to the blond hair! Glad you are staying healthy.
Major Motivation! Way to Go!
Thank you for stopping by Anne! I really appreciate it.
So glad you are starting to feel fast and strong again. Good luck in your 4th of July 5K! I still can’t get used to you not being around here for the big races. We miss you!
I miss VA too. I really want to come and visit soon…and not get married again LOL…
Training happy & healthy is really what it’s all about 🙂
What a great month for you! Hoping that you stay injury-free and keep kicking butt at those races. This year I’ll be going to a lake house in Virginia for the 4th of July which should be lots of fun! June was a good month for me and I ran 3 races and got 2 PR’s! They’re still far from my goals so I’m going to keep working hard!
Going away to Nantucket for the 4th, so I cannot wait for some sun (fingers crossed). June was a less than stellar month for me running wise. Due to some illness, I ended up taking a major step back with my running and hit a low for me monthly milage. I am really looking forward to the training for NYCM this month, and to get back into the groove of being 220+ miles a month.
Congrats on the awesome month of training, Hollie! And while July 4th isn’t a big thing for us up here in Canada, I’ll actually be down in the States for it this year so I might get a chance to get in on some of the festivities. I wonder how they celebrate in Vegas… 😆
I’d say you’re rolling along quite nicely! Healthy and getting faster all the time are good accomplishments. And I’m looking at a 5k in Avalon on July 20 in case you are interested…
I’m actually going to be out of town the weekend of the 18-19. I might be back on Monday the 20th! I’ll let you know! Which 5k is it?
June was a great month for you! It’s funny you had the same amount of miles. Creeeepy! Where is the Firecracker 5k on the 4th? Are you doing anything fun?
Again, I feel like we’re totally on the same training page: “I feel my speed and strength coming back, it is just taking longer than I would have hoped!” <– that's *exactly* how I feel right now too!
I hope you can come to my Birthday race around the river on Tuesday!!!!
I have to work on the 4th but I hear fireworks right now so I might go outside and watch them. My month of July hopefully will be great when it happens 😉
Great month! Happy and healthy is most important. My husband has to work on the 4th but I think I’ll just wander into my street to watch the fireworks 🙂
Good luck on your 5K, I’ll be on our boat watching the fireworks this year instead of racing, (but I’ll probably wear compression socks anyway because I like to be saucy.) Have a safe and happy 4th and rock that race gurl!
Nice work for the month of June!! You got some great races under your belt and you’ll get stronger and faster from here. Good luck on your race this weekend!
