Thursday Thoughts

I don’t know how to begin this post.  Thursday posts are meant to be random and I can as heck say that will be the case here.  I’ve also written a lot of in depth and “more serious” blog posts this week.

The Hard Truths of Blogging

Wow, that is a lot even for me…I guess I should have spread them out more but I’m not a planner. Apparently serious blogging is what I do when tapering so today I need a space to just gather my trivial and scatter brained thoughts.

Where to begin?

I’m flying to Phoenix today with the Mr. LOLZ.  The Philadelphia airport is only 10 minutes from my house.  It’s so nice being that close to things…in college I had to drive 3 hours to the closest airport.  In VA I was about 30 minutes from the closest…so this just seems weird.

On another note, I saw a wild turkey in South Jersey the other day.  For those who don’t know, I moved from a rural area of NJ (where the nations cranberry’s are harvested) to “the stereotypical city Jersey”.  So seeing a turkey in downtown Haddonfield is like…seeing a buffalo…in buffalo.

Instead of running this week I’ve been cleaning my house.  I know you are probably as shocked as I am (and my parents are) but I actually have a clean house right now.  I want someone to visit so I can showcase my house.  (So seriously if you are in Philadelphia or close by…I only live about 2 miles away in NJ).

I recently purchased a pair of CW-X compression pants.  They were 105 dollars but full leg compression.  Full leg compression is something I’ve never had so we will see how they work out!

Speaking of products I’ve been enjoying lately…I’m turning into a lululemon girl.  I bought a pair of leggings on sale a few weeks ago.  They were great and weren’t see through so I bought another pair.

Tim and I are getting married on a Sunday because every Saturday except one was booked for 2015. That Saturday was actually February 21 and I’m really glad we didn’t choose to get married last weekend. I can tolerate cold weather but I don’t think I would have enjoyed that!

Last night I got to hang out with personal friend and fast runner Liz! Liz is a local writer and runner in the area.  She is fast, humble and recently started a blog.  We went to a diner that has been on my “to do” list for a while now.

On another race note, it’s my first race in a while not running in a race singlet.  I bought a new race singlet.  i haven’t run in it yet…probably not smart but oh well.

I think that is all of the random thoughts I have this week.  I should probably go pack before I leave in a couple of hours…

Questions for you:

How do you spend time while tapering?

This week I cleaned and wrote blog posts.  It counts I guess…

What am I forgetting to pack for Phoenix?

(I will check in right before I leave LOL).

  1. I always expect to have SO much extra time when I am tapering but then I don’t know where the time seems to go! I guess I have more things to do leading up to the race like getting organized and I spend more time foam rolling and stuff like that. Last year I remember watching Spirit of the Marathon which was a good way to get motivated before my race!
I also really appreciate living close to the airport…it would make travel that much more complicated to have to add in a significant amount of driving time to travel plans!

  2. I recently became a lulu lemon girl as well – I splurged on a pair of pants because they were comfortable. I’m sure I could find a cheaper pair of pants that are comfortable but I do enjoy them 🙂

Let me know how the compression pants work out! Oh, and best of luck in Phoenix!!

  3. When I’m tapering I clean, I cook, I do laundry, and I blog much more frequently! It’s amazing how much time opens up…. I have been sick alllllll week and feel like I could be using the loads of extra time the same way but honestly, I’ve just been too sick to bother 😦
I wear my full compression pants with compression socks and enjoy the results.
I purchased two pairs of Lulu tights ages ago, maybe in 2011, maybe even 2010…! While I feel like I must hate Lulu by default (hahaha) the tights have stood the test of time and fit great.
Have a great race this weekend, I can’t wait to hear about it!

  4. That turkey reminds me of the roosters I saw everywhere when I was visiting Kauai. They were just strolling around on the sidewalks like they owned the place. And it really is hard to deny that Lulu has some nice stuff. They’re crazy expensive, but the pieces last for years and years as long as you take care of them, so it’s not a bad investment.

  5. Glad that you have a clean house! I shouldn’t tell my husband that people do things like clean when they taper because then he’ll want me to run a marathon and taper so we can have a cleaner home. It’s amazing how quickly the house can get messy.

I don’t have full length compression pants, or any compression pants actually. I do own pants (not every South Carolina runner does…). Sometimes it’s good to spend a little more on NICE running stuff because it lasts for years and you get lots of wear out of it, as opposed to something super cheap that won’t last or that you just don’t like all that much. Good running gear (especially compression or cold weather gear) is a good investment… although my cold weather investment is limited to 2 Under Armour turtlenecks.

Hope your flights go well and I can’t wait to see how PHX goes for you! Very excited for you- is there any way we can track you during the marathon?

  6. Yikes 105 is a lot.! but full compression sounds interesting. Let us know how you like them.!

    Have a good flight 🙂

  7. Sorry that you had a hard time commenting on my blog–but thank you for trying! I will see if I can figure out what is going on. I have a pair of CWX full leg compression pants and they’re actually pretty clutch–I haven’t worn them in a while (I haven’t needed to) but I did used to enjoy them. See you in Phoenix!

  8. Turkeys are scary. They are up there with geese in the mean bird category! I love, LOVE those compression tights. I bought a pair like 3 years ago and they are STILL in good shape and make my legs feel awesome. You won’t regret it! And I refuse to buy lululemon leggings for the shear reason I know I will love them and WANT ALL THE LEGGINGS. #poorpeopleproblems SAFE TRAVELS! ❤

  9. How did I live in Haddonfield for years and NEVER see a wild turkey?! You must be lucky. Well, I can say that I did see not one, but THREE robins while running a few days ago (then it got cold again and I haven’t seen them since). But this means there is hope for spring! I’m so glad we got to hang out last night! Cheering for your marathon success from Jersey. 🙂

  10. Safe travels to Phoenix! And remember: the hay is in the barn. Let me know how the CW-X tights turn out. I’ve been thinking about them for the past year or so, ha!

  11. I catch up on a series that everyone raves about and I haven’t heard of! I also attempt some visualisation of the perfect race execution if it is an A race! Happy tapering!

  12. i pretty much only clean when i’m tapering or injured and since that’s been more the last year, our house is pretty clean lately. ha. good luck in phoenix.
we just got married and got a heck of deal with the winter wedding timing. sunday sounds great. it literally rained and froze on our wedding day and we still had a blast. i think some people were more worried than i was, go figure!
