Fun Reads: February 20

I can’t believe it’s actually Friday.  This week has flown by.   This time next week I will be enjoying myself in the warmth of Phoenix, Arizona and honestly I can’t wait.  I haven’t had a lot going on this week (never a bad thing).   This last month has honestly taken a real toll on me.  I’m cold, miserable and just want to stay inside.  Each year I don’t think it’s possible to dislike winter anymore and each year it proves me wrong.

On the cold note, does anyone else feel like February really brought the winter?  January was a cold month but it feels as if February has just been brutal.  To my knowledge, a negative degree windchills is not normal for this area of NJ/Philly.  It doesn’t make me miss Upstate, NY and I feel for my friends in Canada.  Hopefully March brings warmer weather.  As you can tell, going to college in the arctic tundra of New York state makes me not miss that climate.

Bottom: Tights and sweats

Top: Tank, knit sweater, Gore wind resistant jacket, puffer vest, arm warmers and mittens

Head: ear warmers and Burton hat (Burton hats are actually made for skiiing)

  1. I love the swimming article. I fully identify with #1. I’m such a wimp in the pool now. I will never ever forget the torture that Debbie inflicted on us when we did not start our warm up as soon as we got into the pool.

  2. YES to that swimming article. Every single one is so accurate. It’s crazy that I still so strongly identify with swimming more than any other sport. I guess that’s what happens when you spend 15 years doing something!

  3. It’s so interesting to me how many swimmers just burn out. I guess it’s the only sport where you can be at it so many hours/week, so I suppose it makes sense. I thought the article on shoes was interesting, too, and only time will tell how it all shakes out (somewhere in the middle is my guess). I love that they quoted my favorite Jay Dicharry and what his final quote was on the matter. And thank you for sharing my inflammation piece!

    I’m with you…so OVER winter (I never like it but this?) and cannot wait until I am on a plan headed west next week!

  4. It’s been REALLY cold. The windchill yesterday was unbelievable. I think today it might be too cold for me to venture out, so, off to the gym it is! Have you ever run in a face mask? I want to buy one but I feel like the second I do it will start to warm up. (Of course, there’s always next year, which, if history is any indication, will be even colder.)

  5. I’ve been rocking the Buff all day, every day! A race I did last year handed out fleece-lined ones, and it is clutch. But yeah, February has been brutal.

  6. Your layering system cracks me up! Did you over heat in all that? We have been so spoiled in the PNW with the most insanely mild winter of all time…. but earlier this winter I was out on a -4 degree run in a very similar layering system… got to do what you got to do. Excited to check out some of your links… think I will start with the state of blogging link.

  7. You look like you’re about to rob a bank in that picture! I like the idea of the puffer vest. I think that would be great in keep my chachas warmer. My weekend plans include SOLO BRUNCH! I love taking myself out for a peaceful breakfast where I read the paper and relax. Thanks for the great articles!
