Chapter 23.5: Texas

Today I leave again to go back to the East Coast.  I know it has shocked a lot of people (including myself) that I am moving so quickly (a month and a half of being in Texas).   I truly had a great time here even though it was for such a short time.  The military lifestyle is truly unpredictable and I knew that there was a chance I’d be moving back to the East coast relatively soon after moving here.  Not a month and a half, but relatively soon (I was thinking more like 5-6 months later).  I also knew there was a chance I was staying out here for four years or moving elsewhere. My heart right now is on the East Coast and as I said a while back, NJ will be a great fit for me.

I learned more in this month of being in Texas about myself then several of the semesters in college.

  1. You can’t sweat the small stuff.  Look at the bigger picture and while you might not be 100%satisfied right now…you will be.  Don’t worry about it.  For me, not having a job was and still is frustrating.  I know I will have a job that I love again soon.
  2. You can’t schedule every life event.  I tried to do that and it failed.  My move dates, plan dates, where I would move changed 6 times over the course of the month.  I hate not being able to give people direct answers of when I can hang out or if I can make stops to see them, yet right now I don’t have those answers.  Believe me it’s as obnoxious for me as probably you.   I wrote about being a planner like it was my job a while back and right now I’m spontaneous like it’s my job.
  3. Celebrate no routine.  This may be the only time for a while I have no routine.  Embrace it.
  4. Living with someone else…you must learn to adapt and change.  This could be the hardest for me and throughout the month.  With Tim not getting back until around 6-7, that is when we would generally eat dinner.  Maybe he wants to do something else.  I could have planned something all day and it doesn’t work out.  You have to learn to compromise.

Despite all this moving I am 100% happier than I have ever been in my life.  There will never be a point in my life with zero stress but this is coming pretty close.  I am 100% happy with my 2013, despite 4 moves and despite that I’m heading into another 1700 mile drive.

Prey for Lorraine and I.

So that’s it in a nutshell.  I’m happy, I’m moving and I can’t wait to start another new chapter of my life.  One of the shorter chapters of my autobiography I guess I’ll title it Chapter 23.5…Texas.  Straight and to the point.   I’m 23 this about my half birthday and I spent some time in Texas.

Question for you:

How do you eat your steak?

Medium rare and mooing for me.

Prettiest sunset/sunrise ever?

  1. I love the picture of you and the bear in the state of Texas :). Gotta love goofy tourist type pics! I guess only living there a month and a half it did feel more like an extended visit. Good luck with your drive to NJ, I’m sure it will be a good fit for you. Moving is stressful but hey, you can say you got to experience Texas, I guess that’s one good thing- and you do have some neat memories from it like meeting up with people and a few races!

  2. I really like the pictures. And that you ran to the Mexican border every day. This is going to sound nuts, but it does not feel like you’ve lived there for a month and a half at all! Time is flying by which probably makes your time there feel more like a visit than a move. If nothing else, you’re getting to see the country from a different point of view and hopefully it will make you really love and appreciate living in New Jersey!

  3. I am not a big fan of steak and if I do eat it I like it cooked pretty well. Moving in with someone is probably one of the biggest adjustments I have ever gone through. I moved in with my boyfriend in August and thought it would be no big deal since we spent so much time together anyways but it brings on a whole new level of adjusting, commitment and compromise. Good luck with your move and getting settled in again!

  4. Medium rare!!! My mom and dad are both more of medium well type of people so whenever my dad cooks steak I will set a timer and yell ONLY TWO MINUTES A SIDE!!! He habitually still over cooks it. ARg.

  5. So excited for you! You will find a job, and hopefully one you love to go to everyday once you’re all settled back in. Medium rare .. and not a second cooked over that. Safe travels!

  6. LOL I always used to eat my steak while it was still moo-ing. I think it’s more flavorful when it’s rare even if you feel slightly like a cannibal. And now, I don’t eat red meat! I do miss a good, bloody steak sometimes though. There’s just something mm, mm good about it. Personally, I’m pretty happy you’re moving back East, too, because now I still have a chance to meet you some day! 😀

  7. you and your car are getting some quality time this year. Lots of it. I think if anything this quick change has taught you a ton about your tolerance and also adaptability.

  8. If you’re happy, then I’m happy for ya. A while ago, the thought of not being able to settle or have a concrete plan would have sent me into full-blown panic mode, but after being thrown into those kind of situations myself and realizing that the world doesn’t end and life actually becomes a lot more interesting, I love that you’re getting so much from this period in your life. Safe travels!

  9. Awesome! It’s so wonderful to hear about great things happening in peoples lives! It makes me so excited to hear about all of the wonderful opportunities out there 🙂

  10. OMG I don’t know how I am going to be able to live with someone again. I have been living alone for the past 2 years and it’s been wonderful. When I find my future MAN…. It will be difficult for sure! LOL! But good luck on the East Coast! I used to live in CT.

  11. It’s official I need to get steak (and Mexican and BBQ) in the 2 days I am in Texas! lol. 2013 has been great for you girl (coming from a friend that followed you through it!) Honestly I think this quick move to Texas and back was something your life needed. You don’t need a lot of time in a place (especially Texas but I am biased) for it to help you grow! Everything is bigger in Texas so it’s only natural it can teach you more in a short period than 4 years of college!
