Training for Life

Training training training.

Typical training post de Sunday.  Does this get boring to you?  I don’t really care either way…sometimes it bores me or pains me to write…sometimes I’m excited.  Since this week was such a powerful training week for me (read: 2 races and 3 double digit days…it’s exciting)  Moving on.

The main question on everyones mind is how is my knee doing?

You’ll recall that 2 weeks ago I was complaining about knee issues.  I had thought the issue had come about because of miswear of my newton lugs.  Chances are…I was right.  My knee problems have left me as soon as I got rid of the pair of shoes (yes it pained me to get rid of a 170 dollar pair of shoes with less than 100 miles on them)  Yes, it would have pained me to get injured again as well.

Sunday: Binghamton 5k+warmup and cooldown (14.45 miles total)
Monday: 8.1 miles easy (7 miles on grass)+2 hours on elliptical
Tuesday: 8.5 miles easy (7 miles on grass)
Wednesday: 8.6 miles easy (in the city…a bit more hilly than I would have preferred)
Thursday: 10.1 miles with Sarah
Friday: 5k on Base with Dad (free race?  Yes, please) I ran a 19:04…recap on Tuesday (5.5 miles overall)
Saturday: 18.5 long run with dad (17 on trails).  We kept it at an extremely easy pace and were actually out a park cheering on racers doing a 50k.  It was a lot of fun.

Total:  73.75

Actually, I just realized taking Sunday to Saturday yielded a much higher mileage than the dailymile average of Monday-Sunday.  As you can see, I have pretty much taken out the elliptical from my routine this week.  As I said, as I upped my mileage (which this was a little bigger of a jump than I anticipated) my elliptical sessions would be going down more.

I must say though this was a really good training week for me, however, next week I’m simmering down.  I don’t have anymore races (read no more speed) until December 31st which will be enjoyable.  My only goals for next week is to keep on keeping on.  If that includes elliptical, swimming (ha ha), keeping the same amount of mileage…well there you have it.

Questions for you:

1.       Favorite workout of the week?  (Was it a race?)

2.       Longest run ever?

Mine is 18.9.

  1. Awesome blossom week Hollie! Glad the Newtons were the problem. Well glad it was shoes and not your knee, but why must it be $170 shoes??

  2. I know you must be so excited that you are really running again!!! Merry Christmas present? haha. yeah longest run for me is about 6 miles. and that was 2 years ago lol

  3. Swimming (haha) is exactly how I feel about it. Except I think you have more motivation to hop in the pool than I do. I guess you’ve also been out for long so maybe I’ll get there eventually. Doubtful lol but 18.9 miles! Woah.

  4. Wow jealous, wish I was doing that much running! I dont know why I burn out so easily, so get it gah, anyway. :-/

Awww no about the shoes, that’s happened with me too with the Newtons though but not knee issues my ITB decided to play up out of no where then I swapped my shoes and it went away = conspiracy!

Hope you have an awesome week! 🙂

  5. Sorry about the shoes- Newton’s are pricey. I know some people here have had issues with theirs and they took them back and got other pairs. I don’t know if there was some sort of defective batch or what but my other speedy friend Scott had lots of probs with his last pair. Congrats on your races this week and your long run, my longest run ever was a half marathon but I did several 13 milers to get ready for it, and my friend wants to do a 14 miler soon so I may take her up on that for a PDR hehe. Glad you’re over the injury and not ellipticalling!

  6. Obviously you’re a machine, but it’s all balanced — speed, easy, fun, grass, with buddies, increasing running but decreasing time on the elliptical. Sounds like you’re finding a good balance for you. Glad your knee is feeling better! And all of this while you were travelling? Congrats!

  7. I am so in love with the fact that your dad runs 18 miles with you. That is amazing. Great weekly mileage!! Yahoo to the knee feeling OK. My best run was yesterdays 10K yay.

  8. Longest run ever: 24 miles. It was the bomb.com. I am so jealous that your dad runs with you!! And yay for upping your mileage! I hope you can get in the pool soon…. if you want LOL.

  9. thank god your knee is doing good!!! my favorite workout of the week is always my saturday runs, i allow myself to go as far as possible. furthest i’ve ran, would be 12.5 miles, gunning for 13.1 next weekend though!! 😀 😀

  10. Wow, talk about a solid week of running! That’s so cool that you and your dad run together. My dad runs a little, but we’ve never gone out on a run together.
