Typical Thursday

Today was a typical Thursday.    But um, when thas my life really been typical?  I suppose I bring it upon myself but sometimes my days are boring-I swear.  Those are days I actually do an entire day of eats.

In case you are just tuning in, I go observe classes in the high school on Thursdays.  Today-I even got to do a demo lesson!  I taught about supplementary angles, traversals and all that jazz to 10th graders. (and the kids understood-I think)!   I was so tired this morning and waking up at 6am really didn’t work well in my life.

What did work was having my own America’s Next Top Model Shoot instead of getting ready for school.  Real girl outfit number 5 was Micheal Kor skirt, Hollister tights (oh yes I went there its cold up hurr), BCBG white lace top and crew green tank and kt tape on my ankle because that is part of my awesomesauce outfit.

Speaking of America’s Next Top Model-um why hasn’t Alex gone home yet?

This is the photoshoot from last night.  Do you like the Blondes or Brunettes?  I always have liked darker hair (although clearly by my roots the other day need to work on that situation.)

Blondes!

Brunettes!

My natural hair color=blonde (not dirty but not ultra bleach blonde).

I found a photo from my natural days..aka high school.

After I got back to campus, I went and had lunch at our dining hall with Bonna.  I broke up with the dining hall about 3 months ago, and have gone from going everydayish to going maybe once a week or so.  It was heading my life into a cycle that I didn’t want to go too.  Now that I have cut ties with it-I realize they actually have decent food.  Can you believe that?

Greek Salad. Olives+crumbly blue cheese=key to my heart

—————–

Today was a run and (are you ready for this) a swim day too.  Neither of these were meant to be fast at all (in fact my run is supposed to be slower then my long run.  I love recovery runs, just slow long miles baby).  I ran 7.3 miles and swam 3000 yards in a little less than two hours.  I actually did this all in a row-how my brain stayed focused that long was the real question here.

—————-

Today Blogging BFFS is the last day of March holla.  Which means let’s welcome in some April Goals.

1.       Gradually increase milage and replace the Arctrainer (sorry Blogging bffs we are having a long and slow breakup, the Arc and I.  I will still agree to see him once a week when my milage begins to increase).
2.       Try a new recipe once per week.
3.       Try a new food on campus at least once per week.  I normally get a quiche and the same side salad-but I’m changing I swear.
————-

Question for you:
1.       Any April Goals?
2.       I need your help.  I need to interview 3 people that use different types of supplements (this could be protein powder, multivitamin, fish oil).  But anyways-I will love forever if you email me at lolzthatswim@gmail.com allowing me to interview you.  You’ll be famous and my BFF forever.  I mean what more could you want in life.

Schleepy Schleepy Powerwalker

Every week I buy a new flavor of berries for my waffles and pancakes, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, mixed berries..blah blah blah.  Anywho-this week raspberries were on sale which are my favorite so there was no competition. Topped with Greek Yogurt. Seriously nom.

Today was a nonrunning day (aka date with the Arctrainer day).   I still don’t want to overdue it coming back from an injury obviously.  I just did an hour on the Arc, it wasn’t a god awful workout but it wasn’t that great either.

Is it strange I see people on treadmills and running outside that I get extremely jealous?  Please don’t judge my life.

On a separate note-today I made it about half a mile powerwalking in 8 minutes.  I have class on Mondays and Wednesdays about a half a mile away and it would take more time to drive between classes because I would have to go the opposite way, find parking ect.  So I channel my inner powerwalker to get to class in time.  (my first class gets out at 9:50 and the second starts at 10:00).  I really think if I gave the power walking a shot in road races, I would be a contender.

Today for lunch, Kelsey and I went to the dining hall instead of Dexter’s.  No I’m not “quiche out”  but I figured a change of scenery can never hurt.

Roast Beef Flatbread and Corn

Greek Salads...I'm not addicted.

For dinner today, I just grilled up some crab cakes and mixed vegetables.  I’m such a Plain Jane for when you are as tired as this girl and have no work due the next day it happens.   I may or may not have mentioned that I gave up ketchup for lent.  Well-I always have these crab cakes with ketchup so it was extremely hard for me but I made it through!

Veggie champ!

I was super tired today and if America’s Next Top Model wasn’t on, I think I might have been in bed by about 8pm.  Infact, I’ll be laying in my bed at 8 anyways-so you are all obviously still invited over for my blogging BFFS ANTM party.

Questions for you:

1.       What are you doing for St.  Patricks Day?

Hmm-I’m jogging a 5k race (I’m not racing it-crazies).  I’m watching children in the classroom for a full day and then sleeping.  I live a very exciting life obviously.

2.      Are you a fast or slow walker?

I honestly walk rather fast to begin with.  It always drives whoever I’m with insane but that’s okay they will get over it eventually.

Breaking Out the Pink Spandex

Today was the first day of classes and also the first day I can run again!  What a fabulous day…finally something to do with my life.

But it started out awful.  My waffle mix was too watery and the heat two high on my waffle maker.  So therefore, my waffle got stuck.  I spent five minutes (along with burning my fingertips) of poking and prodding trying to free the strawberry and blueberry waffle from the maker.

It resulted in this.

It was still tasty and I got my fruits in.  Just not beautiful.  I committed a blogger sin.  Posting ugly food.  I hope you still enjoy my entry.

Did I mention my goal for New Years was to get 25 servings of fruits and veggies weekly?  I know it’s not the 5 per day or whatnot but 25 is a big step up for me.  It’s about 4 per day or so.  Right now I’m at 9 between today and yesterday.  Someone help me.

Today’s class schedule was as followed.

9:00am Advanced Modern Algebra

10: Principles of Coaching

11:00 How to sneak away to the treadmill (No not a class but exactly what I did.)  I just kind of told my housemates that I had class from 9-12.

2:00 Advanced Calculus

Do you ever notice that upper level math classes just throw the word advanced into it to make you feel good?  Advanced calculus is the class after Calc 3 and differential equations.  They could have just called it Calculus 4 but they want me to feel good and have bragging rights that I’m “advanced”.

I supposed I’ll explain to you how my day got better.

It was -5 here today as the high. Since my nine and ten classes were literally 20 minutes walking distance from each other, as much as it pained me I knew I had to drive to class today.

I go try and start my car.

It doesn’t.

Must have been that -30 cold blast we got hit with last night.  At least my housemate Kelley was more than willing to drive to class today and then drive me to my next class.

Modern Algebra was fun or as fun as another proof intensive class can be.  I haven’t had this professor though and she is crazy so it will be enjoyable.

My coaching class is actually in our athletic building and is a ton of fun.  Two people that I quite enjoy talking to Brittany (kick booty 500er) and Cory (didn’t swim this year for personal reasons) are in there.

Then it was time.

Bringing out the pink spandex time.

Yes my baby newtons have a zebra carrying case.

Since I’m already in the gym complex and really need a pick-me-up because of how swimming has shaped up to be, I got my run on!  I haven’t run in nearly a month so I was hella excited to start again.  I got in 6 miles in 50 minutes which is a nice start.  You can’t really complain about the beginning of anything.

I had lunch with my housemate Kelley and my new housemate (Kelley’s sister) Jen.  It is weird not eating with Aram all the time but I don’t really mind and gives me time to get all my girlfriend bonding on.

Anywho for lunch I had a rye Panini with roast beef, mozzarella, spinach, tomatoes, banana peppers and crushed red peppers.  I also had a big bowl of corn.  I was just craving some corn, it was so random.  Corn is one of favorite veggies I think.

nom nom nom

After my 2:00 Advanced Calculus class which is the same people as last semester and the same professor…in the same classroom (obviously the best time of my life), I came back and got ready for swim practice.

We haven’t had a hard swim practice is nearly a week due to the double dose of swim meets last weekend.  It wasn’t as bad as I thought I but having a hard set of 400IM’s isn’t my favorite thing either.

900 warmup

3X(100 breastroke-50 kick-50 fly-100 back)

3X200 IM

6X25 Freestyle Sprint

4X400 IM hard

8X100 freestyle recovery

5X200 Freestyle interval

6X50 backstroke cooldown

Because it was so cold today, it was certainly a soup night.  I heated up southwestern style Progresso and got another serving of veggies.  With a piece of Tilapia, it was the perfect meal.

On a side note-sorry I haven’t produced any good recipes lately.  I have been rather lazy to try new things but also busy that I don’t have the time.  I promise I’ll have a good one out tomorrow.  Dealing with pumpkin (and it’s not even pancakes…)

———–

Day 7 A picture of you dressed as someone famous.  I honestly have never really dressed as someone famous but sometimes when I’m behind the blocks people tell me I resemble Natalie Coughlin (a famous swimmer-look her up!)  So we both wear bathing suits so wala.

Question for you:

1.       Are there any celebrities you look similar too?

2.      What was your favorite college class?

Mine was Calculus.  Don’t judge me.  Although backpacking was at the top along with human sexuality.  Freshman general education requirement are always a bundle of joy.

3.  How do you get your veggies?

Exam Day 1

Before I begin, I realized that one of my favorite bloggers Nikki, was missing from my blog roll. So if you are feeling like having some awesome reads go to it. She was working in a prison as a clinical physician assistant. Needless to say her blog is fascinating.

Yesterday, I posted my new found knowledge from the Great Baker about the worst thing you can say about a peanut butter dish is man I need a glass of milk afterwards. Why?
They claimed that if the cake is so dry that you need a glass of milk than it obviously isn’t a good cake. My claim though is if it so thick and peanut buttery how could you not?

For breakfast I had peanut butter and yogurt toast with two Sunnyside up eggs. Yes, I love the combination of peanut butter and yogurt and on bagels and toast it blows my mind away with deliciousness. PB and G for life.

Then off to my 8am modern algebra test. Let me tell you, that is a MWF class at 2pm and I’m not ready to do math at that time. Let alone 8am? It was okay though. From talking to people today, I know I was not alone in saying what the heck. Let’s just say it was not the easiest test of my life.

Today I was just craving apples. All during my exam, all I wanted were some red delicious apples ha. So after I bolted downstairs and picked up two fresh and juicy ones. Too bad they were in my stomach digesting before I even thought about taking a photo.

Salad was inspired to be a Greek Salad with olives spinach and feta cheese. Alongside my salad, I had cheese purses and beef teriyaki. I didn’t finish the teriyaki because I was over it.

Insert some swimming here. Kelsey and I kind of goofed off and bonded a bit. I mean we did the yards but it took a lot longer than normal but it was cognitively necessary.
200-swim-kick-pull-im-swim
8X100IM
2X500 Pull
400 IM
5X200 Free interval

Then we went on a lovely date to Lehman. I believe this will be my last venture there until next semester. I probably won’t really go that much anyway because I’ll be getting my single lady cook on with Ms Julie.

For dinner I had some roast beef, a baked potato, a stuffed shell and some veggies that somehow got missed in the photo. Oh and a piece of chicken. I forgot about that little guy that was hiding. The veggies were green and overcooked but I don’t think the dining hall cooks to please us veggie lovers ha.

Question for you:
Do you have a closest friend? Is it your significant other? Is it someone back home? From school? Do you have a back home bff and school bff? Or do you only have blogging friends because that’s okay too ha. :) ?

My closest friend is back home, Anna. She goes to a school closer to home and I can’t wait to see her. My closest friends from school are Julie and Kelsey. Both of them swim and I live with Julie. Kelsey swims distance with me and we always bond of our “love” for swimming…And then of course you know Aram lives in my love somewhere in that mess.

Anna and I when we were tan.

Kelsey! :)

Who is that guy?

Grime Girl Round Two

First of all thank you everyone for your lovely comments about feeling better today. The neighbors next door just got their roof redone and Aram thinks it may have something to do with that because there were metal rods on the ground. Go figure…Anywho.

Random notes of the day:

I’ve checked out a couple of books from my schools library on eating while being a college athlete.

I’m going to preface this by saying; I have in the past had an unhealthy relationship with food. Eating far too little to swim and compete. That was in high school, as I went to college I realized what my body needed to perform well and-what foods worked and what didn’t.
I am going to completely be a realist. I am not a large girl, and I believe everything that my doctors have said about needing 4000 calories each day is false. Yes, I run and swim (and burn about 1500 calories daily) but I believe it is causing me to gain weight that is not muscle by eating that much. Sometimes I’m too full to move but I feel if I don’t eat enough, I will have no energy. That is why I have begun to do some personal investigating. I am reading books on that topic right now. I’ll be sure to post anything interesting I find.

If you have kept up with my blog, or have known me a for a while, you probably know I want to become a middle school math teacher. Well-that is partially true. The more I think about it, the more I think later down the line maybe a career in nutrition or health and fitness. I could see myself becoming a high school coach or working with females (and males that have eating disorders). I’m a junior in college, shouldn’t I have this all figured it out? Needless to say because I don’t want to take 3 upper division math courses in one semester on top of swimming and running, I’m pushing my student teaching back 1 semester. That means I unless I don’t find a minor (aka nutrition) I’ll be a part time student and then I can’t swim or run. Go figure.

So my schedule for next semester looks like this: MWF Concepts of Geometry and Advanced Calculus, TR, teaching math in middle school and Nutrition 315. Then Thursdays I’m also in the school observing. I may add backpacking again (as a gym class!). Backpacking my freshman year was so much fun.
This week I am trying to really limit my junk food intake, because I want to desperately do well at my cross country race. The next two weekends are important meet and race days for me. This Saturday, is the last cross country race of the season. Since I qualified for regional’s-it’s a pretty big deal. Next Friday, is my debut of my favorite event in swimming! The mile baby-66 laps of pure joy. Needless to say-I’m pretty excited for that as well. Since both my major events of that two day meet are on Friday (aka the 500 and the mile), Saturday will be cake for me. Pancakes that is.

———
Today is my second grime girl day of the season. YAY swimming.
Morning practice: 6550 yards
600 warmup
2X [100 Breastroke, 50 kick, 100 backstroke, 50 butterfly)
14X150 Free Interval
200 backstroke
450 kick
200 backstroke
3X400 pull
5X200 IM

Then I came back and made myself some sort of yogurt bowl concoction. I sliced up two baby pears, made a protein muffin without the chocolate and put it all into a bowl with 1 cup of Chobani yogurt.

For lunch Aram and I went to Dexter’s. It is a fancier place on campus that has won numerous awards in New York State. My college actually has the second highest rating in all of New York schools for eating.

Anywho-I had a roast beef, mozzarella and grilled veggies in a pita pocket and Aram had his usual hummus pita pocket. We both had glass salad, which consisted of shirataki tofu noodles, sweet peppers and other veggies. Then I had a plum. I also had Jazzy Java coffee. Caramel butterscotch rum flavored coffee. Hello heaven in my mouth, where can I buy you?

Remember how I ordered some protein from netrition on Sunday night? The package was here at noon today! Can you believe that?

Typical Grime Girl Day, hair up in a side braid. Minus the 11 pound package ha.

Practice number two at two:
1000 warmup
7X200 Free interval
2X300 whackstroke (my love for backstroke…so clear…)
5X200 Free interval
2X200 backstroke
400 kick
500 pull
4X150 Backstroke
2X400 IM
Total 6700 yards

I can’t lie to you. All during practice, I just thought about making a protein muffin with my new protein. I would have taken a picture of how delicious it was…but it exploded in the microwave. Don’t you worry-I still ate it and it was still delicious ha.

They have switched up my dining hall’s night time food a bit. Tuesday’s are now steak night. That actually works out really well for me because I don’t have to have a lot of steak two days before a big race (since it was originally Thursdays were steak night). I also had some green beans and probably all the grapes on the salad bar.

After dinner with lovely Kelsey, I headed to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things for tomorrow. Since I ended up having to go to afternoon practice yesterday, it didn’t give me enough time to prepare enchiladas. Aram and I are having an “enchilada off,” where each of us makes some and we compare. Aram’s mother from Mexico, so I have a feeling this may be a bit competitive hehe. I’m using a pumpkin enchilada recipe personally.
