Guest Post of My Straight Hair Real Girl Twin

Um since 1000 people did races today, please rave about your race in the comments section.  I thought of each and every single person that told me, when I was laying in my bed.  Under lots of covers and reading your blogs.  I raced downstairs to make a waffle if that makes you feel any better.

On another note-I am a bad blogging bff.  One of the blogs, that I have been reading for seriously about 5 months now-somehow never made it my blog roll!  It was like I was keeping one of my favorite blogs away from you guys, in secret!  (kind of like how I hoard pumpkin and pancake mix….) but anywho-Go check out Jaime’s blog now!  She is fabulous and loves waffles almost as much as I do.

Today I went to the gym around 10.  My legs feel awesome-seriously-and I have debated running.  BUT.  I want to still play it safe so I purposefully left my running shoes (baby Newtons) at home and brought my cross training Pegasus.  That way-I would most certainly not be running.

Then it was off to Julies house in Northern Northern NY.  You see, I go to school in Northern NY about 10 miles from Canada-so you’d think I’d be at the very top, but you can go a little East and find an even more Northern part of NY.

This was a big day for me because of two things:

1.       I straightened my hair

2.       I’m wearing pants.  I have not worn pants since Feburary 20.  I only know this because that is the day I fractured my heels on the treadmill and gave up pants forever.  I should have given up pants for lent.

Julie didn’t even recognize me.

Who is this girl?

We had some awesome noms at local restaurant.  I got my salmon of course.  I was infatuated that they gave popcorn as an appetizer and a giant salad.

After half was in my belly.

Except I don't like onions

Then my salmon, corn and baked potato (without ketchup-2 weeks strong!).  I’m actually really happy of how well that is going.  (I gave up lent for Ketchup).

PS: I finally made some Nanner softserve and I love it.  Always add sprinkles-obviously.

I just used bananas and Greek yogurt.

Incase you don’t know your Northern New York geography, there are a lot of hills.  As in we are in the Adirondacks and you vary in elevation every five seconds.

Filling up our water bottles with Spring Water

There is also a maximum security prison where Tupac served time.  Go figure the many wonders of New York outside NYC.

Questions for you:

1.       Have you ever had nanner softserve?  Share your best recipes.

2.       Do you have an alternate straight hair, “real girl” twin that no one ever recognizes?

Metoo!

She still loves coffee though.

Please compare Julie and I's coffee sizes...mine is obviously the smaller one...

Black Beans Are Why I Love Nutrition Class

You guys are fabulous-but no really. Can each of you come move to NY so that I have friends to live with next year and don’t have to move into a dorm room?

Anywho-I woke up today with the realization that I would have to go to class and classes weren’t canceled. Not joyous math classes but nutrition and education. Both interesting classes (somewhat at least).

Remember that quiche I had on Tuesday? Well I committed a blogging mortal sin and had it again today. I like quiches and broccoli. Not only did I eat the same thing, but I didn’t take a picture and am using the one from Tuesday. I complemented it with red delicious apples and fruit salad because it wasn’t molding and that is a big step for my campus. (On a side note-my campus has one of the highest ranked food services in NY).

In other news, my placement for practicum (in student teaching) was announced today in my education class. I’m actually staying in the same town that I go to school in (which is extremely lucky). I have been in and out of those schools before which I think really helped me. I literally run by the school on my runs, so I hope people don’t already look at me as that running girl bumming their track.

To make you even more jealous of my life, because I was the fastest person to read a nutrition label, I won some black beans in nutrition class. Instead of winning candy, we win healthy foods and my choices were black beans, whole wheat pasta and pickles. I can try and bestow my speed reading to you but I only got became quick when my parents told me I had two seconds to choose between foods or I couldn’t get either! So that helped me in nutrition class today and I won these beans.

Please style your hair in a beautiful messy bun like me. We can be twinnies...

What is your favorite black bean recipe that I can use this can with?

We are doing less and less yards of swimming due to taper but I just keep getting more and more tired.

For dinner tonight I grilled some tilapia and red roasted potatoes and green beans. It was actually really good but what food isn’t after swim practice?

Perhaps a Career in Firefighting…

Well today was a lot less exciting then yesterday. After I published my blog, I watched Salt. Has anyone seen that movie? It is fantastic and I won’t give away in spoilers.
But go see it. Now.

————-
This morning it was -16 degrees walking to practice. Yes that is a lovely negative 16. It was the greatest four minute walk of my life.

After practice, I came home and made some eggs. I found chocolate sauce by Walden Farms at one of our local groceries, so I was saving it for lunch pancakes topped with chocolate. YES! Is anyone as obsessed as I am with Walden Farms?

After making a quick breakfast, I had to go return some rocks for a class I took last summer (which I forgot the mineral kit at home during first semester). There was a fire in the building (just a Smokey one-no actual flames). Either way, I got to sit in a fire truck and wait for it to be safe for me to go in. The fireman just invited me in. How cool is that? The fireman asked if I wanted to sit in there instead of standing out in the 0 degree temps and I stared at him blankly and said, um sir can you direct me to the entrance of the fire truck? Bahaha. I wonder if they get that often. They clearly just have a passenger door but I had no idea.

A new career? Perhaps I'll just get this Halloween costume and call it a day...

For brunch I had Waffle bites. I have been having waffles a lot more than pancakes lately. Maybe I just prefer the crunchy syrup trap waffle versus flat and smooth pancake. Anywho a chocolate chip waffle with Walden farm chocolate sauce and Fage Greek yogurt was a delicious brunch for this girl.

Practice number two was even more beautiful and kind of resembles number one don’t you think?

Dinner was a simple go to meal consisting of steak topped with mushrooms with steamed veggies and mashed taters. Now my belly is full and I’m ready to sleep.

That was a dirty lie. My house is staying up to watch the season premiere of skins on MTV tonight. Anyone else?

Questions:
Favorite movie of 2010?

I’m looking for more things to keep me occupied during this last week of no classes.
Have you ever been in a fire truck/police car? (Not the backseat I hope :) )

A few Nom noms in Puerto Rico

At our stay in Puerto Rico, since I was with the swim team most of our meals were created for us.  I don’t exactly have the same tastes as the majority of my team which was difficult.  It was also pretty hard for me, to not control how anything was prepared for an entire week.  As a foodie, I would have loved to explore other options and tasted different kinds of food but the point of the trip is the swimming not the food.  Then a college swim team doesn’t exactly scream I want lots of delicious healthy food choices for my body.  They more or less say quick and easy Mickey D’s right next to the resort.

Lucky for me, my housemate Julie was interested in trying new things just as much as I was.  We went to a few places around the resort area which were all extremely tasty.  I had forgotten how much I love fried bananas and after trying fried plantains again, I’ll be having more of those.

After days of doubles, I couldn’t quite muster up the energy to take photos of everything I ate but I did get a lot.

Pancakes and Eggs was a staple breakfast most days

Unless they had Puerto Rican oatmeal which I have yet to figure out how they make. Best thing of my life.

Picking Fresh coconut and slicing it open

Sea Bass and Fried Plaintains

Steak and Potatoes

Best Bakey of my life

The Carrot Cake was my favorite from Day 2

Question for you:

Do you get bothered when people refuse to try something new?

Exam Day 1

Before I begin, I realized that one of my favorite bloggers Nikki, was missing from my blog roll. So if you are feeling like having some awesome reads go to it. She was working in a prison as a clinical physician assistant. Needless to say her blog is fascinating.

Yesterday, I posted my new found knowledge from the Great Baker about the worst thing you can say about a peanut butter dish is man I need a glass of milk afterwards. Why?
They claimed that if the cake is so dry that you need a glass of milk than it obviously isn’t a good cake. My claim though is if it so thick and peanut buttery how could you not?

For breakfast I had peanut butter and yogurt toast with two Sunnyside up eggs. Yes, I love the combination of peanut butter and yogurt and on bagels and toast it blows my mind away with deliciousness. PB and G for life.

Then off to my 8am modern algebra test. Let me tell you, that is a MWF class at 2pm and I’m not ready to do math at that time. Let alone 8am? It was okay though. From talking to people today, I know I was not alone in saying what the heck. Let’s just say it was not the easiest test of my life.

Today I was just craving apples. All during my exam, all I wanted were some red delicious apples ha. So after I bolted downstairs and picked up two fresh and juicy ones. Too bad they were in my stomach digesting before I even thought about taking a photo.

Salad was inspired to be a Greek Salad with olives spinach and feta cheese. Alongside my salad, I had cheese purses and beef teriyaki. I didn’t finish the teriyaki because I was over it.

Insert some swimming here. Kelsey and I kind of goofed off and bonded a bit. I mean we did the yards but it took a lot longer than normal but it was cognitively necessary.

Then we went on a lovely date to Lehman. I believe this will be my last venture there until next semester. I probably won’t really go that much anyway because I’ll be getting my single lady cook on with Ms Julie.

For dinner I had some roast beef, a baked potato, a stuffed shell and some veggies that somehow got missed in the photo. Oh and a piece of chicken. I forgot about that little guy that was hiding. The veggies were green and overcooked but I don’t think the dining hall cooks to please us veggie lovers ha.

Question for you:
Do you have a closest friend? Is it your significant other? Is it someone back home? From school? Do you have a back home bff and school bff? Or do you only have blogging friends because that’s okay too ha. :) ?

My closest friend is back home, Anna. She goes to a school closer to home and I can’t wait to see her. My closest friends from school are Julie and Kelsey. Both of them swim and I live with Julie. Kelsey swims distance with me and we always bond of our “love” for swimming…And then of course you know Aram lives in my love somewhere in that mess.

Anna and I when we were tan.

Julie and I on Halloween

Kelsey! :)

Who is that guy?
