Foodie Fashion Fridays

I am tired.  I am lazy.

That is all of my confessions of the evening.  It’s Friday night.  I have a RACE-I mean tempo run. Tomorrow morning.  So I must get some sleep.  Our cross country team was raising money for breast cancer awareness through a road race so it should be a fun four miler tomorrow.

Anyways-onwards to Foodie Friday Favorites on the week.

I have been really into dark chocolate pomegranate pancakes this week.  Maybe that was because pomegranate juice was on sale and I hoarded it.

Yes-I made those a grand total of 4 times this week.  Go me-Making pom pancakes is a rather simple addition but I’ll post anyways.  Instead of adding water to your dark chocopancake mix-add pomagrante juice.  It makes it insanely moist and delicious.  So easy.

Quiche.

Easy to cook dinners when  I’m tired.  Ie: sweet potatoes, broccoli in the microwave and grilled chicken and fish.  Wow it only took me 15 minutes and it was more colorful than the rainbow.

Oh and this salad that I somehow put together.  Aka the best thing of my young life.

spinach, garlic, onions, tomatoes, beans, chicken breast....the list is endless

Other notable favorite things:

My new vera.  Mine was getting to grimetastic.  Is anyone else obsessed with Vera Bradley?  It must be a college thing…

Now for real girl outfit photos.

First up, we have Lizzie. Lovin the grey top and white shorts.  I wish it was still warm enough to wear shorts here.  ;)

Next is Allie!  Ahh, white flowey tops are always a win.  PS: Love your phone case.

Tara.  I practically begged her to submit this photo.

Sam.  I love the simple color block on this one.

Laura.  Not only do I love this entire outfit, I love the photo as well.  :)

Last but not least, Amy keeps it casual and cute at work

You have until Sunday at noon to vote (and of course you are more than welcome to send me your outfits in the mail too).

Question for you:

  1. 1.       What were you obsessed with this week?
  2. 2.       What are your plans for the weekend?

Swimming and Broski

I suppose I forgot to tell you before you watched my vlog, it was still me just wearing my glasses because it was early.  I don’t put in my contacts a lot in the morning unless I’m working out.  In fact, I wear my glasses often.  I like to pretend I’m intelligent sometimes.  I think it confuses people.  But anywho-

Last night we made Crockpot chicken.  I didn’t even know there was such a thing until…well now.  I personally like chicken fat (along with steak fat) so it is easy for me to scoop it all out and god knows no one else wants it and thinks I’m disgusting so it works out well.  We served it over kale, random greens, eggplant, squash and mushrooms.  So good.

After an incredible journey with Anna up north to the train station (because our lives are so fun)-I came home and went to bed.

But not without having a chat with my leg.  Oh do you think I’m joking because my I frequently do.  I asked for forgiveness to the running gods of my ostrich ways and that I would rather go back to that bird style of movement versus my penguin walking.

Well my little tendon listened to me as now I walk a little bit normally.   As normal as I am though.  It was such a big day for me seriously with that because I am not supposed to be walking this well until later in the week.

But on today!

I slept in until 8:30.  I think I finally caught up on some rest.

Now here is the only negative Nancy part of my day.  I went to the gym to see if I could do some of those elliptical (or cycle I guess…) and they all hurt my knee.  As in if I did them, I would be where I was on Saturday.  It was rather frustrating since the doctor told me those wouldn’t cause me pain.  So after I cried and got all that jazz out of the way I decided I would just come back and swim when the pool was open.   Good thing I didn’t wear makeup today.

Like I said.  I’m not going to frill it up and say that this is fun or easy  and I’m happy and having the greatest time of my life.  I’m an emotional sap and I will cry when needed.

But during my time of waiting for open swim and since I’m an art major, I made myself a motivational poster so that I can really see where I’m trying to go.  Don’t worry…if you ever need one.  I got your back.    For me, I need to keep telling myself workout hard now will just cause me more pain later.  Would I rather be in pain now or more pain later…

But then I went for a 5000 meter swim and I felt so freaking good.  I’m currently writing this blog 30 minutes later so it’s probably why I’m in such a good mood.  I really think it might have even stretched out my tendon a little more and I can walk even better.

Anywho more updates on my familia front.  AKA the broski.  He called home yesterday for the first time!  He gets one 5 minute phone call each Sunday.  Sad story I will miss it next week but we are letter writing and he gets his laptop.  So more communication!  Matt-you have so much catching up to do.  Just kidding!

They seem to take a lot of pictures of you enjoying yourself Matt.

Can I just sign up for the boating portion of a military academy?

Incase you wondered, in Matt’s company of 36 people…already 10 have dropped out.  Holy schmee-I guess it isn’t all fun in games.  He is a little cray cray but then again so am I.  ;)

Question for you:

  1. Do you wear glasses?
  2. Do you ever go boating?

Kick Me Out of the Foodie Club

Do you what I realized, I haven’t been posting my nomtastic eats lately.  How can I begin to classify myself as a food blogger (actually true life: I’m not a foodie at all) if I never post about any sort of food.

But I do enjoy photos of my cat.

It was a day of interesting eats to say the least.  Remember the other day when I was getting my Thanksgiving on with sweet potato pancakes?

Now I am pretending (since it’s a little bit closer) that It’s Halloween and having pumpkin pancakes.  I finally was able to find more pumpkin at Farm Fresh.  I may or may not have hoarded a few cans.

Speaking of Farm Fresh, that is where I got my lunch today.  While yes, it is a grocery store (I mean you New Yorkers have Wegmans), Farm Fresh has the bomb.com salad bar.  One would think if I spent the same amount for this glorious salad as some fancy restaurant,  I could get away with having it for two meals.

Not the case for this girl.

I don’t get full on 3 spinach leaves okay thanks.

But it was the best salad in the whole wide world and I need to stop buying gas station coffee so I can buy 13 dollar salads.  I couldn’t tell you everything I added in here but I remember these from staring at the photo for a hot second:  it had a base of spinach leaves followed by corn, 3 bean salad, mozzarella cheese, feta cheese, ham, turkey, sun dried tomatoes, grapes, this weird stuff that looked good (and duh it was)….yes I could spend 10 blogs writing about how nomtastic it was.

I wanted to run and swim today but it started thundering so I had to settle with just running.  I took yesterday off from running and had an excellent ten miler today.

For dinner, mother and I went on a little date to a place called Joe’s Crab Shack.  It’s adorable and literally can fit about 10 people max inside.  I had a delicious bbq wrap.  I’m not really into bbq at all but it sounded and looked amazing on the menu.  There was corn, salsa, sour cream, bbq chicken, lettuce and tomato all wrapped up in a wrap.

Mom got a crab cake.  I guess that is kosher since it was called Joe’s Crab Shack.

Then for dessert, I got one of these bad boys.  Contrary to popular bloggatude, my favorite dessert is not ice-cream.  It’s bread pudding.  I haven’t had it in a while and this more than made up for it.

There are certain things in your life that just deserve a hell yeah.

PS: Thank you for your help yesterday, it seems the blogging world wants me to go with the short floral.  I was thinking 80s hooker style personally…

Question for you:

  1. 1.       What is your favorite holiday?
  2. 2.       What is your favorite dessert?

What you didn’t do that in your youth?

My fellow blogging besties.  I have returned after a rather short but much needed personal time off.  I hope everyone had a wonderful week.  It is kinda of flying by for me.  Maybe that was because I was too busy being a real girl wearing real girl clothes.

Before I begin and partially the reason I needed to come back so quickly.  My bestie Anna, (better known as aDuBs…but only because I call her that and she hates it) has created and a blog and I’m going to personally make sure each of you become her biggest fan.

So go there now because she is amazing and fabulous and the only one to put up with me for 10 years.  God knows no one else can.  So go.   NOW!

And because I’m on the topic of aDuBs…I goggled her name into my 1500 photos and found some winners.

This must have been over Thanksgiving.

This was in the middle of glassblowing class last summer. Clearly we were studious.

In one of those mall booths. I was so confused of what we were doing bahaha.

10th grade cruise! (and yes my hair is that color when I don't dye it)

As you can clearly see she puts up with my crap.  ha.  ;)

Fun fact of the week: I wore real girl clothes and looked presentable every single day.  I also wore a bathing suit and running spandex most days too but there were clothes that wouldn’t make you question that I was a member of society (as my dad says).

Whenever I don’t wear “real girl clothes” the daddykins always tells me I’m not ready to be a productive member of society for the day.  Which 9/10 days I wear real girl clothes so I don’t have to put up with his sassyness.

Speaking of the daddykins, if you are in the VA Beach area and you go over the bridge right after the downtown tunnel off of 264, my dad’s old ship is in the drydock.  I tried to have a photoshoot with the ship but it was an epic fail.  No, I wasn’t driving and yes I will capture more photos because it will be there for a while.

Noms of the week:

I had like 20 salads this week.  Have you ever just craved your greens? Each was pretty decent but the one at my favorite diner ever (the Silver Diner) was the best.  Salmon, cranberries, mango, strawberries, spinach…other random things.  The lady asked if I wanted to salmon filets and I responded with…a fatties got to eat.  I guess that meant two because that is what she gave me.

oh yes and this deliscous black bean quasadilla too

Because I was feeling rather down in the dumps all week, my family thought it acceptable to fatten me up with ice-cream.  I’m addicted and if you ever come visit we are going on many dates.   My mom loves froyo but quite frankly nothing beats some good ole cake batter ice cream.

once here

another time here...

I have also been putting my magic bullet to good use and making blueberry smoothies a lot.  Nom nom nom.

My dad asked when I took this photo what the hell I was doing. I asked him what...you didn't do this in your youth.

You know of course, my day wouldn’t be complete without some good ole pancakes and waffles.

dark chocolate cherry pancakes

Strawberry waffle...we have a plethera of strawberries in these parts...

peanut flour pancakes

Well anywho.  I am alive and well and I hope you guys are too.

Question for you:

Tell something fantastic that has happened to you that you have been dying to tell me about. (I guess that is more of a statement but I’m over it).

Same Ole Jazzy Jazz

Since I’m clearly a regularly scheduled program-I can finally say and now back to your regularly scheduled program.  Except I’m at home now…I haven’t really done any normal shenanigan filled blogs in a week or so.  But now that I home, things might be oh so much different.

I’ll still be running and swimming and eating pancakes (do you even need to ask?)

But I’ll be teaching some jazzy weight lifting aerobics starting next Monday.

I typed aerobics into my photos and found this picture of how I was shocked my ladiez actually loved my class. hm.

And I’ll be cycling (ah!!) sometime in the future.  I got a sweet old Schwann Bike to attempt this triathlon in a couple weeks.

Oh and I’m taking human anatomy lab at 7:45-9:45 at night.  Um…grandma Hollie does not approve.

But other than that same ole same ole.

————-

Please guess what kind of waffle that I made today.  I’ll give you some clues, clearly it is some sort of chocolate but it also has some sort of other hint of flavor (which makes it my favorite!).

Any guesses?

For lunch I had a tuna fish sandwich on flat bread (because we had no normal bread left)  and asparagus.  I saved the other half for after my swim.  I don’t like mayonnaise at all and it disgusts me, so I add lots of mozzarella cheese into too tuna fish and melt it and it is the bomb.com.

Dinner tonight was a new recipe!  You guys would be so proud.

Chicken parmagiana as found here.

It was quite delicious and I’m a big fan of chicken parmasean as is my family.  As you guys know-anything on this blog is for the easy simpletons like myself so if I can do it…so can you.  ;)   I paired it with pasta which is rather boring so I opted not to photograph it.

————-

Since I wasn’t ready to run just yet, I decided to do a nice long and slow swim at the pool.  It ended up being 2000 meters of swimming and 2000 meters of pulling.  It actually really stretched me out thank goodness.

Well-I’m off to my human anatomy and physiology lab which is from 7:45-9:45pm.  You know…the time I’m normally laying in bed, god help my lab partners.

Questions for you:

1.       Favorite flavor of chocolate?

I prefer dark chocolate with orange or coconut (nomtastic).  I also like a lot of different fruit flavors with dark chocolate.

2.       Are you a fancy cooker or do you prefer easy and quick recipes?
