Well it’s the end of the first month. Did you see that on the calendar too? I only made one goal this year and that was to do my core workouts. I don’t deny I’ve nearly fallen off my personal bandwagon several times. But I’ve still managed to do 50 crunches every day or some sort of core workout if I’m more overzealous.
So long story short…have I made my New Year’s Resolution for January?
Yes.
Was it like pulling C’s in college?
With a few B’s in there too. A couple guess induced A’s if I’m lucky but C average.
This month with settling in, I hope I’ll be able to do some more stronger core workouts. Plus my strength training has begun so I’m able to do core and strength together meaning I don’t wait until last minute before bed. Extremely short post from me today.
Question for you:
Have you been making your New Year’s Resolution? (Though I know most people didn’t make them.).
What is your favorite core workout?
We do a daily core routine for track that is pretty basic but it takes 5-10 minutes and works your abs. I try to do it regularly on my own too but that just never happens. I’d say even 50 crunches is pretty good, you’re not technicallyyyy supposed to work the same muscle groups every day anyways, even though a lot of us do. I’d say you’re doing pretty well with that resolution!
actually abs are the one muscle group that recovers within 24 hours! So if you do core work at the same time every day your muscles should have had ample recovery time
Thanks! I mean it isn’t like I’m doing 50 pound medicine ball crunches so really break them down LOL.
Hey, C’s get degrees right? I think it’s better to do what you’re doing than make big plans and then get overwhelmed and do nothing. That’s what I did related to my core work. My favorite core workout is planks. Predictable, I know. Anyway, go you for sticking with the core work!
Finally someone that understands LOL! I get it done and that is all that really matters…
I totally should have done that.. I guess I could start now!! Do you feel stronger in your core!?
I do as a matter of fact.
There’s a 30 minute abs class at my gym and my God, it leaves my mid-section feeling as though someone has been punching it repeatedly. I know people say you don’t get ‘abs’ by doing core exercises (not true – you just don’t SEE abs by doing core exercises. But most people only care about posing with their six pack vs. the benefits of good core strength
) but if 30 minutes of planks, side planks, weighted oblique twists, handstands and headstands (ugh, I need a little help with those – I’m the only freaking girl there who can’t do them), endless crunches and kettlebell swings don’t produce some results, I don’t know what will. I only do it once a week but some crazy fools do three classes a week – my abs need six days to recover!
xxx
Exactly and that is the sad part of me posting about this. Too many people think it’s to get “ripped”. I have not posted a single ripped photo of me LOL.
I don’t really do New Year’s resolutions but I do a class called BodyFlow that is a combination of yoga and pilates, and it really works your core. Pilates is definitely a great core workout. We also have that 30 minute ab class but honestly I haven’t had the guts to try it yet.
Oh, and planking… we do some crazy plank variations at BodyFlow and when I do them on my own, I definitely feel it the next day. I’m glad you’ve been pretty steady with the core especially a month in, most people have probably given up completely on their resolutions by now anyway!
AHH I didn’t make a resolution, unless you count losing this weight
it counts and you are doing a stellar job!
I kind of panicked for a second when I realized it was February and everyone would be asking about the maintenance of resolutions, but then I remembered that I didn’t really make any. The only thing I could really call a goal is wanting to focus more on pushing myself out of my comfort zone, which I guess I’ve been doing alright with… I want to amp it up this next month though and open up a little more on the old blog.
Ok so I think I might have to join you (just a wee bit late) in this core challenge because I was FINALLY allowed to do a minute amount of core exercises and I am SO DANG sore today. Time to build up my abs again!
No resolutions for me, but I did make a goal to run four half marathons and my first one is this month..so I guess that counts for staying on track. Well I suppose I have to complete it first (I will haha.) Awesome job with the core work..I NEED to focus on that more too.
I love me some pilates. If they have classes at your school, go to them. They kicked my core’s ASS when I took them.
LOL, I’d have to get a faculty membership.
eh like most of my goals I forget about them really quickly, I try to jump back on though every once and a while
That is why I forced myself with just one…I can easily focus on it!
I want to do more core workouts too. I guess my “favorite” (who really likes doing ab work?) would be traditional crunches. Have you seen results after a month?
Ya girl. You get that 6 pack! I didn’t specifically set a resolution. But I have been more self motivated which is a goal of mine always haha
Eh, no worries – resolutions you make at new year mean you have the WHOLE YEAR to work on it! Now that your life is less craycray you can make it more of a routine. I made some resolutions but then I was on drugs and like….I’m doing my best lol.
I love the college analogy girl! lol actually I think it is good you started with a settling in with your job and work outs. It means room for growth. If you go balls to the walls right away what will you do come December?!? Any time you need motivation for core work text me. I love core work and would do it all day if that was possible
Exactly, I know for a fact if I went balls to the walls the first month by February I’d be burnt out. That is also why I’m not really that concerned about running mileage as well, sure I’m running high mileage…but it’s winter and I’m not racing. If I can’t run/don’t feel like it that day…I won’t. If i don’t feel like doing an intense core workout…I won’t.
&&& now that you succeeded with your January goal, I think it’s time to go treat yourself! Maybe that’s pancakes, waffles & chicken (don’t ask me why I said that, its just what came to my head.. random, yes!), or going to chuck e cheese & jumping in the ball pit
It is my New Year’s Resolution so I have 11 more months LOL.
Ugh. Teach me your ways. You may be feeling a C, but I’ve only been putting in a token effort.
