PMB (week 10?)

Physical, Mental and Brags of my break.  Similar to college breaks (oh right because I’m working on a college campus), I had a very long and extended time at home to figure myself out.  As happy as I was at home, I’m also really really excited to be back with some of my new friends and working as well as starting a new chapter in my life.

This round of PMB (week 10??), I think I’ll highlight my some successful fun I had over break.

pbm

Physically:  Physical aspects of myself…This one actually took the longest for me to write this week.  Normally I can just say I’m god’s gift to the world.   Physically during my break,  I made myself be presentable most days of the week.

real girl.

real girl.

Mental:  This was the easiest one for me.  Being sick half of break (and having awesome plans to run high mileage) I mentally just said no.  No I’m not going to run through and end up on the side of the road…why would that be fun.

Brag: I ran 5 road races over break (4 5ks, and a 20k) and I won 3, placed 2nd in one and got 3rd in another.  One of the 5ks that I ran in December was only a few seconds off of my personal best time so that was exciting.  I enjoyed the running I did do…would I have liked to run more?  Sure, but as I say often…running is a collection of workouts versus a single week or month.

running.

running.

All in all I had a great break but I’m more then excited to be back.  I know I bitch about the cold (because I hate it) but I’m glad to be back working again.

Question for you: What are your PMBS?

  1. Wooo! I’m glad you’re embracing the arctic tundra (I think that’s what you called it?) and are excited to get back to work. I think that people who are as high-energy as us have trouble sitting still, so it’s nice to get back to a routine. You had some really awesome races while you were home despite the health setbacks. Good for you :)

  2. Welcome back to the tundra! ;) Let’s see … physically, I survived I really tough indoor spin class yesterday! Mentally, I listened to my coach and decided to take today totally off, even though I wanted to hit up a yoga class this morning. And brag … not really a brag, but I’m super excited for my college BFF to visit on Friday! :D

  3. I love that winky face picture. Oh you’re not winking and that’s your face….ooops! Hehe jk. I am so into the long college breaks, it is going to be rough going back to regular life when I graduate. I hope you’re feeling much better Hollie!

  4. P: I took some days off hot tools for my hair! I know it’s not good for it :(
M: I definitely controlled my feelings of anxiety and seemed to handle stress better
B: I had a somewhat consistent workout routine even with snow and cold.

  5. YAYA so happy for you… also admitedly teeny bit envious as my come back hasn’t been so nice with races concerned anyhow… Hmmm yes my PMS haha can’t believe I wrote that instead… whoopsi awkies I meant PMBS is on it’s way lalalaaaaa… one day in the near future I shall post one I swear! :-D

  6. Work is lame… I miss college ha. But I guess routine is definitely good. I want to try to do my runs/cardio before work which means I will soon be training my body to wakeup at 4:45! oofta.

Lets see.. PMBs. Physically I have started seeing some change in my body finally after a lot of hard work. Mentally I am still battling my depression and seeing improvements everyday. Brag I pushed myself to do 10 reps at 95# for bench press the other day. Still have a long way to go to be where I used to be but I was so proud and happy :)

  7. I hear ya on being happy to get back into a routine. As much as I enjoyed spending time with family and not doing much of anything over Christmas break, by the end of it I was more than craving a regular schedule again. My brag for this week is that I successfully managed to fend off the plague that seems to be sweeping the nation… and now that I said that, I’m pretty sure i’s going to hit me hard…

  8. I really needed to read “running is a collection of workouts versus a single week or month” this morning. I’m frustrated because my legs feel ready to run after the Goofy challenge by I’m having a super painful toe issue that is making it difficult to wear shoes. You’re absolutely right though… it isn’t about one run or one week of running, it’s about consistency and some time off should do me good. Plus I need to heal! Thanks Hollie!

  9. I am really loving your positive and optimistic attitude in this post! You just made me rethink dreading going back in a few days! Yup it will be back to the daily routine of things but don’t I go on and on about how much I love routine?!? Plus I feel like with the start of things my goals for the year can finally start! Thanks for the pleasant and needed reminder girl!

  10. Love what you’re wearing in that last photo! You look awesome! Mentally I’m glad on being able to just say no to running (like yesterday when my body just hurt). Exciting to be back at work :)

  11. I’m still amazed by how awesome of a runner you are! :D Really great things to be proud of and even though you were sick, you deserved a break ;) and this is random lol but that blue is a really good color on you!

  12. My PMBs include logging some awesome mileage and getting back into weight training (even if it’s light) and stretching like it’s my job. Also, rocking my real job, and getting back to a strong meal plan with comfort. Finally, calling with regards to some online shopping gone wrong (an ipod that was stolen from the package and shoes that needed to be returned because they caused me injury during the summer).

As for you — I think that these are all amazing victories. Especially coming back from being ill to running two races (even if one wasn’t so hot for you). You know what — that’s life, and you’re surfing those waves. Being an adult can rock if you’re ready for it. I think that many amongst us are learning how to do so (still kids at heart, but at least we know how to act like adults).

  13. YAHHHHHH way to kick running and racing ass over break! Even with the blood sugar issues, seriously, running 5 races and placing in all of them….I bet that sub-1:25 half is gonna be no problemo for you. I think my physical brag may be the same as yours, I am doing my best to look like a real girl – hair, makeup, clothes – even while on crutches. Mainly because, well, I’m not allowed to go to work or really do much of anything so I have ample amounts of time to play with my makeup and wardroble LOL
