I wasn’t sure if I was going to write a blog about my travels because they didn’t seem too thrilling. I mean, you know I swam a couple of open water swims, bonded with my relatives and ate some food. But I decided upon it to make myself seem more “personable” as I do exist outside of running and swimming. Even though I feel like the majority of this blog will be me bitching about the intensely hilly run I did.
To get the running aspect out of the way, I did a long run of 15 miles and thanks to my new GPS watch and program could figure out the hill inclines. Isn’t this neat?
I also saw this sign which I found to be hilarious.
While I was running, my dad was scuba diving with his brother. I’m not scuba certified so it isn’t like I could join them (though I would love too one day!). My dad was looking for fish for dinner. (and yes that is a spear gun on his leg…it scares the bageezes out of me too).
Moving on, we picked up my brother from his school and went to dinner that night. (newish readers, my brother goes to the USMMA which is a military school…he can’t just waltz out and had to get special permission to even leave campus). But Matt and I are really close and we are always causing problems together.
In fact, there was a fire drill in our hotel…lucky for us it was just malfunctioning fire alarms…so we used the elevator to get downstairs while they were going off.
And took a picture in our classy ways.
Other then family bonding, relative chatting (and being 5 miles from NYC and never making it there)-it was rather mellow..which is fine by me..it’s exactly what I needed!
Question for you:
Do you have family reunions?
This is the only one I have. My dad’s family all lived there for a bit, so they love to come back every year.
Have fire alarms ever gone off (outside of firedrills at school)?
I actually had a fire alarm go off in a restaurant I was at last year too. They had to remake all the food because it got cold while we were outside. It ended up being a 2+ hour adventure at that restaurant.

oh gosh, hills when you are not prepared for them to be there are the worst!
We used to have fire alarms all the time in the dorms.. so dumb! Glad you got to spend time with Matt!! I am pretty excited to see my family this weekend!
Are those the lace shorts? They’re so cute, I love them!!! Once, when I was younger and we were on a family vacation, the hotel’s fire alarm went off at like 5am. I thought it was a fun adventure, but my parents were NOT pleased
I also had a fire alarm go off in a restaurant. A waiter was on a smoke break outside and somehow lit the building on fire. The place was filled with smoke but oddly no one ever had us evacuate. Our waiter told us we would be fine and we sat there eating as the fireman put out the building. Looking back, it probably wasn’t the best decision.
Did I miss the fishing spear? I could see the photo relating to that, but I’m probably so spectacularly unobservant that it’s right in front of my face!
I don’t see a lot of my family other than my parents and sometimes my Uncle. There’s a lot of bad feeling and estrangement sadly – I wish I could see my extended family more.
Fire alarms have gone off at the gym quite a lot before but literally nobody moves. We’re all so hardcore we’re willing to burn to death before we miss our workouts haha
Really it’s because there’s a café in the health club below and people are always burning the toast.
xxx
I love famiy reunions! Luckily my mom’s family all live in st louis, so we all get together for holidays. we are all pretty close
Sounds like fun! We never have family reunions, unless you count weddings as reunions. A fire alarm went off while I was at a public pool once. It was indoors and outside it was already cold so we all had to go out there and stand shivering cause we were still wet and they wouldn’t let us get our towels. How much would that suck if it actually burnt down and we all just had our bathing suits on because all our stuff in the locker room perished?
Hahaha I love the picture of you and your brother at the elevator. Such rebels. We don’t really have family reunions because everyone is so scattered. Way to go with those 15 miles, especially considering those inclines!
Dang…those be some hills! Nice job! We have family get togethers a lot and I love it…both my husband and I r extremely close w our families and we hope that some day we can have a house with 2 in-law apartments attached so both sets of parents can be near us in case they ever need our help lol.
I grew up 10 hours from all but my immediate family. I recently moved to NC and am within 2 hours of them and it’s so weird/ great!
Only bad thing is being away from my immediate family who I’m super close to!
You and your brother actually look alike.
I had a fire drill in MOS school in Virginia. I guess it was real, but someone was always pulling the fire drill so I never thought anything of it. Instead I sat in my room in ate trail mix.
