Productive Week of Training Post

Ah yes, the weekly training blog.  The only blog I haven’t been struggling to write lately because I keep a weekly tally of my workouts so it isn’t too difficult to write.

This week I had a lot of miles (not on purpose but I had them).

I also decided instead of running two 5 miles run (which normally fit into my schedule better), I would start trying to run 10 miles in the AM as much as possible.  I’m certainly glad I started doing that (right now), I just feel like I have so much more free time!  It’s fantastic.

That being said because I’m not really sure how many people really care about my details of my runs, I’m going to go back to giving overviews and skim among the fun parts.

Total: 82 miles

My speed workout this was a tempo run on trails.  We were just testing the waters but I was able to maintain a 6:26 pace for 5.5 miles).  It was certainly shocking considering it was in the middle of the day the morning before I had a solidly AWFUL shakeout run.

I also raced a cross country 5k yesterday which I did well in (20:21).  I’ll post a recap sometime during the week.

The rest were easy miles keeping the base up high.  Some were done in the 7 minute range (not so easy) some in the 9…it was whatever I was feeling.  I love that causality and not being restricted to something so serious.

As far as cross training…I did p90x.  I didn’t swim…I didn’t have time.  Oh well.   I’m learning (and right now it’s hard) that I don’t have time to progress and do as well at swimming if I want to train for running.  I don’t mind though-like I said, I do open water swims for funzies with my dad.

My goals for next week:

I have a 5k race on Independence Day and I would also like to at some point hit the track next week.  Continuing my easy miles in the morning is really started to sound good to me and especially at it heats up.

Oh wait-I just remembered-I am racing a 3k open water swim so I’ll get in the pool at least once.  ;)

Question for you:  How were your workouts this week?
