PrePlattsburgh (Half Marathon) Workouts:
If I didn’t say it 100 times already, today I raced my second half marathon of the year (today…Sunday). The first was last month. This particular race, my coach wanted me to try keeping my workouts the same until Friday and Saturday. I tend to run the best on high mileage weeks. So this was my taper series for this race (mostly normal runs for a while)
Monday:
4X1 Mile repeats: The goal was between 6:00-6:15. My average time was 6:07. I didn’t even feel that great and was honestly a bit frustrated. My legs felt heavy and the workout itself just made me grumpy.
Cooldown/warmup 6.7 miles easy. Total: 10.8 m
Tuesday:
AM: 6.3 at 8:00 min pace. I hit that goal pace perfectly. I don’t know why
PM: 6.3 UPtempo at 7:15 pace. This was a glorious run for me because I felt so good running it, and it just felt easy and natural. Apparently speedy runs that aren’t quite tempo runs are called Uptempo runs…I just call them running quickly…
Wednesday: 10 miles easy
Thursday:
AM: 4.1 miles easy
PM: 6.3 tempo at 6:36 pace. Incase I fail to mention about my tempo runs, I never have a goal really I just kind of run fast and time it. That is the extent of my speed workouts. They are done without garmins and they are done by still how I feel. I don’t say 6 miles at 6:30 pace. Way to get me nerve racked.
Friday (off…I would also like to say I ate upwards of 4000 calories today and don’t regret it).
Saturday: 8.2 Shakeout EASY
Sunday: Plattsburgh Half (I ran this in 1:27.19…I’m happy with it and I’ll post a race recap sometime this week)
Total 65 miles
This sort of taper was somewhat nerve racking for me. Seeing as really, though I did cut my miles, I didn’t cut until Thursday! My coach reminded me (constantly) that that is all I really needed since my body had run so many miles prior that this was a huge deal for it. Okay okay. It obviously worked out well since I PRed!
Question for you:
How were your workouts this week?
Do you run with a garmin?
Congrats Hollie! That is an amazing time! I knew you would crush 1:30!!!
Good God you are a beast. And by beast I mean incredibly talented and dedicated woman! <3
Wow you did awesome today!! I can’t wait for the recap. You are epic!!
As for my workout week, I haven’t worked out since Monday. I think my body needs some major time off since I just keep getting reinjured.
Congrats on a great week. It is always tough to remember our body needs a rest sometimes especially when we are in the groove!
You are beyond incredible!! WAY TO GO and I can’t wait for the recap!
I can’t wait to read the recap. Nice job!
AAAAH Hollie you are AWESOME! you so deserve that amazing time and PR!!
can’t wait to read your recap! <3
Amazing! SO proud of you! I rarely run with a Garmin–only for speed workouts or tempos to record pace, but I don’t use it as a guide—just to see where I’m at that day. I really think it’s helped my running. I don’t even look when I’m racing–just the splits, but more for feedback.
awesome job on the run!!!!
Nice work girl, you kicked some major butt.
I don’t own a Garmin but I use Runkeeper. I tend to turn it on and just run and then look at time and whatnot afterwards. I kind of think when I get a bit faster I wouldn’t mind a Garmin though.
You are great. And I have a Garmin but I haven’t had the chance to use it at all because I just got it for Christmas.
Congrats on an amazing half!!! That is super impressive.
And yes, I run with my Garmin, because I’m lazy & don’t like to do my own math.
And, I’m anal & always need to know exactly how far I’ve gone & how long it took me.
Way to go Holz!
Can I just say I’m tired READING your week of workouts? Jeez you go! Congrats on the half time, that’s great! Have a wonderful week
Congrats on your race! A good friend of mine & her dad ran this race too, and he finished almost exactly when you did (within 10 seconds).
DANGGG. You are awesome.
Glad to hear about your PR, Congrats to you!
