Arm Rambles

Sunday is still Run day even if I’m not exactly running.  In my mind, Sunday Runday still flows. I’m still going to find some sort of aspect to talk about dealing with training and such.  So there.  Take that arm and knee and whatever else hurts.

Speaking of those two-I’ll update you.  I want to give you exciting news about my arm but truth is-it still hurts.  It almost just feels like that moment when you get punched in the arm only that feeling lasts for days straight.  It’s super dull and super annoying.  Not to be a Debbie downer but it has kinda been deactivating everything and anything I want to do in regards to working out, hanging out, cleaning, all that jazz.  I know it shouldn’t but I hate spending 20 minutes to try and put my clothes on (it’s one exact moment I’ve pinpointed that I just currently cannot do…involving putting my hair up and putting clothes on).  It’s slowly healing though and I’m already a week out of four to full healing.  Also to clarify-this is the first bone I’ve broke.

I broke my arm and my legit only mark is that awful bruise right there. No big deal.

Next-I want to do a series on overcoming injuries. If you had an injury and overcame it, don’t hesitate to shoot me an email.  I’d love for you to do a guest post!  (lolzthatswim@gmail.com).

—————-

Anyways that finally segways into the post I thought about doing.  I got a lot of questions of how I’m overcoming an injury completely unrelated to working out.  Am I mad?  Am I frustrated?  Blah blah blah…well we all know the answers to those.  I you want to get technical I was walking back from the gym when I fell.  So if I didn’t go to the gym-I wouldn’t have fallen.  Anyways

I must tell you blogging best friends-not every injury is work out related!  It was so hard for me to grasp that concept when I started running and was constantly feeling little nags not making me “running healthy”.  I guess running healthy is staying injury free in regards to running.  But am I currently running healthy?  I’m not supposed to be running because of my arm but it wasn’t a running related injury?  As you can see-it’s just a big loop hole that messes with your mind.

When I really started running it seemed (because it was true) my pain only came from running.  As you well know-running puts a terrible amount of stress on your body and causes you to frequent injury often when you up your miles?

Am I complaining?

No not really because it happens with lots of sports.  I’m just saying that other people get injured too.  People that don’t workout get injured.  People that run, dance, swim, play soccer, football, basketball…badminton.  Injury is inevitable in whatever your fun of choice is.

But what makes life so great is that-your body can heal itself.  I’m only a week away from breaking my arm and I can already move it more than a week ago.  My bones are on the mend!

My stress fracture-I was getting better with each and everyday.

Your body heals itself and being patient and not doing anything is key.  Don’t be rash.  Sure-I could go run right now and probably be okay.  Why push those limits when I could end up falling, injuring myself more and spending months or even years not running.

So there.

  1. Aw, sorry your arm still hurts! I know the feeling you have, its super annoying! I broke my pinky finger and colar bone once. NOT FUN! haha!

Anways, I really hope that you feel better!!!!!!!! Have a nice Sunday!

  2. I feel ya, I’m currently dealing with a broken leg( 4 weeks left using crutches with my leg in a cast). I TOTALLY know what you mean about it’ de activating’ everything, it just sucks the joy out of life!
I always find your writing on dealing with injury so helpful & interesting. Mine actually was running and exercise related, over training , maybe under fuelling, blah, blah, ugh:/ oh well, we WILL HEAL!:)
    Xxx

  3. This totally reminds me of my broken toe. It sucks when you’re injured whether it’s from running or not. I can’t even decide which is worse: dealing with an injury because you weren’t smart about your running, or dealing with an injury because you fell doing something else. Injury is inevitable because we’re alive and we lose our balance and make mistakes. Being positive about it makes all the difference though!!

  4. Sometimes freak things happen. Running or not, you could’ve broken your arm. It’s like when people say you shouldn’t do distance running because they read where a person died during a marathon. Well, how many thousands of people run marathons a year… yeah one man died… if he’d been sitting at home in front of his TV and died (which I’m sure way more people die this way), would there be a public outcry about how watching TV on your couch is bad for you? But I digress…

I haven’t had an injury, but I came back from severe (meaning: almost transfusion level hemoglobin) anemia. Does that count? I’d guest post too, because it’s something I feel very strongly about.

I hope your arm heels soon!

    1. I agree-If I was paid for how many people like to remind me that people die during a marathon… well I’d have a lot of money ha.

I would love if you did Amy! That sounds very interesting!

      1. Cool cool. You can tweet me, or email me (proudpatriot2007(at)yahoo(dot)com) so we can get something together, if you want. It was almost 2 years ago, and I did blog about it a little, but I didn’t have many followers or readers then.

  5. You really do have a great attitude here Hollie, one that is quite admirable! I am so sorry your arm is still being a pain in the butt for you, but mentally dealing with it in a healthy way is essential. And you are doing this!

  6. I love this!! It’s so true… it makes everything else harder as well – like simple stuff like walking around the shopping centre is the hugest pain because it takes me so much longer to walk around when I’m limping hahaha…
And I know exactly what you mean about how because it’s not exercise related it’s somehow more frustrating… it kinda makes you feel like you SHOULD just be able to run, because it’s not a running related injury… BLAH! 😉

  7. Grat outlook Hollie. Don’t do anything now you’d regret later. “Anything can be healed by doing the opposite of what caused it”–therefore, continuing to do something would only prolong the injury

Hope you are well : )

  8. Our body can be an incredible healer, and I am glad that you appreciate that because it is easy to take it for granted.

  9. Agreed. I learned the hard way that even though your body may feel okay, why risk it? If you want to run forever, you have to take baby steps in doing so.

  10. Just getting caught up on your blog. Staying positive through injuries is so incredibly difficult!! – You seem to have such a good attitude and a gasp on getting all healed up before risking a worse off injury. Hope you get feeling better soon, lady!
