Being a community health major, it isn’t like there are many men in many of my classes. It could be for every 20 ladies there are like 4 dudes (eligible dudes for me maybe 1). So it’s not like I need to look my best on the first day of class. Not like I ever do. I wear the same thing the first week of class as I do the second, third and forth…until it gets cold, I guess. Then I continue to wear similar outfits but with leggings underneath and boots.

My broski has requested I display him and all his eats today in food blog format. Since-I’m always (ha) displaying my foods, I thought I would allow him this one time to take over the blog with his noms. Seeing as he goes back to the academy tomorrow and set up my room for me, I thought I would grant him this one request. He also requested I make a facebook album titled fatty mc fat fat. I wish I was joking.
This morning started as any other morning in my life does. With a waffle so obviously that is what we had for breakfast. When you are under my roof you eat my waffles. Not what you wanted? So sad. I will make them for you don’t worry. He enjoys it though (so he says).
My classes are so exciting. They are all in the same classroom. With the same teacher and the majority of the same people. One at 9, 12 and 2. Mondays and Wednesdays are practically the best time of my life. Actually I love all my classes thus far.
Brief outline-My 9am class is Human Diseases. Basically it is exactly what it sounds like, issues you get with poor nutrition. My 12pm class is Program evaluation. This will be my toughest class as it is a 500 level course (which is basically the highest undergrad level you can go) and goes through evaluating different programs that you create. Such as a health program to help college students lose weight. How would you evaluate it and see that it is working. Finally, my 2pm class is Health Disparities which is essentially why certain portions of the population get diseases while others don’t.
Fun stuff.
Anywho-for lunch Matt and I went to the dining hall. Probably one of the only times I’ll eat there all semester considering it is way out of the way for me living off campus. Still so good though.

I believe this is sweet taters, pasta and some turkey. He enjoyed it. Oh is that stuffing too. I don't know-I don't question dining halls.
Next up, I chatted with my cross country coach. I haven’t shared everything concerning my injury and thought process of running or not but I will now. I have been in limbo about running this season. I don’t want to force myself to up mileage and then refracture my leg and be sad for another eight weeks. I also don’t want to suck and run races now and be nowhere near my times. I know-judge if you want but I would rather slowly ease into running versus gun ho racing.
That being said, I am sitting out the first two months of races. I’ll start racing again in late October-granted I feel up too it. I’m not running everyday mind you and I’m easing back into it. I’m not using a watch and I’m not forcing myself to run a set amount of miles I’m rollin at Hollie time, pace and milage. Going with the flow, running away from creeps…ya know. Just running with how my legs feel. Today they felt great and I ran 3.5 miles.
After running, I worked on unpacking my room and then the broski and I went to get Mexican. We both got the same thing but since this is his noms of the day-he is the one featured.
It’s so nice to live right into town where we can walk to wherever we want. I actually really like my off campus house choice a lot more than I thought I would. Well bedtime for me because I’m waking up at the glorious hour of 6 to drop off the brother (sad face hurr) at the Syracuse train station. Not that I’m going to New York City on Friday to see him.
Question for you:
1. If you ever had an injury. How did you ease back into it?
2. Would you rather do 1 2 hour workout or 2 1 hour workouts?
I really like to break my workouts up personally. I feel so much better.

Why didn’t you move back to the same type of living situation as last year? Wasn’t that for athletes? Are you still swimming, you didn’t mention that, only cross-country. Fulla questions here!
I’m still swimming Sharon, that season doesn’t start for another month or so. I’ll be getting in the pool next week!:)
As far as living on campus, I wanted to live off campus this semester but I also didn’t want to live with 4 other girls. It was too much estrogen and drama that I couldn’t handle.
Your broski and I have the same Mexican jive! And that dining room photo explains why I became a vegetarian for ten years!
Injury–stress fracture three years ago. Bah. Eight weeks of no running. Eased back in with run/walk. That first minute of running was heaven. I PRed a 10K six weeks later. Patience, and take it slowly. You’re doing the right thing. And your body will benefit from the time off.
Definitely two workouts. Unless it’s a long run (12+ miles). Otherwise, I like one run and something else. Usually morning and lunch; sometimes, back to back. But have to mix up the activities, or I get bored. Shocking. I know.
Laura you=my running idol. I hope that I can do just as well as you post injury!
I think I’d prefer the one 2 hour workout, personally. But not two hours of cardio though. I’m not there yet!!
Glad you had fun with your bro! But hey when enchiladas are involved…fun is guaranteed.
Lol way to lay down the law on the waffles!
That’s great that you got to see your brother! I’m glad you got to see him. Your classes sound pretty cool, I miss the learning opportunities honestly- classes are kind of cool looking back. Although, some blew.
Good job talking it out with your coach and that’s a great decision you’re making! Think about how much better you’ll be in 5-10 years because of what you do now! Endurance peaks around 29 or so, so you’ve got tons of times to peak!
Firstly, your waffle beast is amazing. It looks soo good. Your classes sound pretty interesting, actually. I’m getting my degree in one thing to get it out of the way but then need to find whatever I’m semi-serious about to get a BA in.. lol.
So… injury. I guess you just have to keep reminding yourself that if you don’t take it slow, you’ll end back up at square one. Listen to however long t he dr. has told you to rest and then add time if you feel it’s necessary. Meet with your dr… make sure there’s communication there. If you feel like you need more xrays, mris, physical therapy, push for it. It was such a pain for me to get physical therapy a while back but it was 100% worth it. They really helped me ease back in to things… gave me whole huge handouts on exercises I needed to be doing multiple times a week, etc. Also talk to your coach, they might have some ideas
Good luckkk
)
Thanks for the advice! That is seriously great! I’m going to just listen to my body, coaches and doctor and not put too much pressure on myself.
Brother’s are the best! Your waffle has me salivating
Slowly easing back into it will be best in the long run, better to be safe then sorry.
I prefer breaking my workouts up but some days I just don’t have the time! So I settle for just 1 workout per day.
Good Luck with all your classes! Don’t study too hard!
I’d prefer 2 1 hour workouts — 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening.
You have the longest legs on earth!
I swear they are unproportional! ha.
TOTALLY agree with you about how you are going to ease back into running- NO need to push yourself…will only lead to more injuries
SO glad that you already know this- you are a rockstar- knocking out 3.5 miles! GO you
& so nice that you got to spend a little more time with your brother before classes start– GOOD luck this year. Sounds like you have some really interesting classes. I’m really interested to see how you like your major- looking forward to updates
No previous injuries (yay!) but I would think easing back into your sport would be better than jumping back in full force like you were never hurt is the way to go.
Hmmm I’m not sure how to answer that workout question since I have currently not been working out. Maybe now I would prefer the one 2-hour workout because if I would try to break it up, say one 1-hour workout in the morning and one in the afternoon, I would be very tempted to just “forget” about doing that afternoon workout. But if I was truly loving working out then maybe I would probably love the two 1-hour workouts.
GIRL 3.5 miles UM AWESOME and honestly i think it is so so smart you easing back into it and racing later…cause there really is no need to push yourself, end up not performing to your awesome abilities, and then get re-injured and just continue in that loop.
and hahaha you brother is hilarioussss but really though hahahahah
and id rather do 1 two hour work out cause then i dont have to shower twice…lets be honest i really wouldnt shower twice….but i wouldnt have to be bothered by considering if i have to shower twice.
You read my mind 100% in that showering situation.
Your bro is awesome and that Mexican food is calling my name.
I do one workout a day that is like 90 minutes. I run and do something else. I don’t have time for two workouts since I work until 9 PM.
I really hope you get to run those end of the season races. I’ve never really had an injury so bad that I couldn’t jump back in pretty fast, and I’m really thankful for that. Though every time I’ve had to take time off and cross train i’ve come back stronger than I was pre-injury, so it can really be a blessing. It’s definitely possible that you will be running the same times later if you recover well and stay fit!
I definitely prefer two 1 hour workouts, though I don’t usually go as hard during one of them.
I know exactly how you feel with the boys in your classes! Elementary education makes it pretty rare to have more than two guys in class. And I think you made a good decision to take it easy for a while. I tore my rotator cuff senior year in high school but swam through it until districts was over. Definitely a dumb decision. I did get some physical therapy after, but I should have stopped swimming earlier. Four years later, and my should still cracks repeatedly and hurts after using it too much. And thought I would prefer two short workouts, I usually only have time to workout at one point throughout the day, so I do one longer sweat session.
I would rather do one 2 hour workout if I was doing both cardio and strength. If I had to do all cardio, I would much rather do two one hour workouts!!!
two one hour workouts! they go by wayyy faster =)
Going through a tendon issue and slowly returning back to running. I am starting as slow as a mile and a half every other day, but hey it is better then nothing!!
You’re so pretty
And you can never go wrong with waffles! Come to my house every morning, please?
Oh, and for dinner. Enchiladas rock my world.
YES!! Blogger waffle parties every morning!
I’m the same with guys in my class, I’m training to be a primary school teacher and on my course at uni there are about 20 guys out of about 150 students!!
I take it easy and rest if I am injured, I start way back at the beginning and build up again. I did this with my running when I was injured and went back to run/walking, and I ended up feeling stronger for it.
I’d rather break the workouts up, I pretty much have A.D.D. these days and wouldn’t be able to focus for much longer! You and your broski are adorbs, I heart your antics…and the Mexican food.
It was very fun to see your broski’s eats. Once again, he is very cute
Yay for chillaxing with the running! I am pulling a you from like last month and being besties with the arc/pool. Fun stuff
I like breaking up my workouts as well, I feel like I get more accomplished in two 1 hour good workouts rather than make myself stay 2 hours when I don’t feel up to par.
Lol I say broski all the time too! easing into the running is DEFINITELY a smart idea, 3.5 miles is fab! You’r bro’s ‘cool’ face with the enchilada is too funny. Yes, respect to the enchilada!
I pulled my glute 2 weeks back and havn’t ran since. I’ve swum and can now walk pain free and am doing gentle jogs but nothing more that 0.5km. no point going full at it and making the injury worse! 2 one hour workouts are the way to go!!
Don’t worry, I’m totally not your typical college student either. But that makes us special in our own way, right?
