Current Obsessions: KT Tape and Grab Bags

Thanks guys for all your words of wisdom about Triathlons.  I’m kind of nervous, and I did look on Craigslist but sadly bikes being sold there are close to 1000 dollars (in my area at least)  and I can’t promise myself right now that that money would be worth it.  So I’m still looking around.

Good thing very few of you live anywhere close to me because I’m in ultra creep mode for a bike.  Oh yes also thank you for your advice on my blog.  I think I was too vague in explaining what I meant but I was just having self reflection of my blog and I’m not planning on changing anything.   So you can never get rid of me.

PS: Speaking of last night, I made chocolate soft serve for my belly.  So delicious. I have been eating them alongside whatever else I eat…not in place of because I’d still be hungry after for realz

You need some cut up frozen bananas…you can choose how many you want.
1/8 Cocoa powder
Sweetener to your liking
Protein powder
½ tsp of Xanthem Gum
Put into your blender

And then today I also had a fruity blast smoothie! This time I didn’t have any bananas left so I threw in:

about 1 cup of blueberries and raspberries
½ cup Greek yogurt
1 tsp Xanthem Gum
Seriously, can you tell I’m obsessed yet?

Yes-I will always add Sprinkles...they are kind of a big deal.

And can you tell I can’t get enough of Julies cooking too because she made blueberry pancakes.

If I use her plates...you'll never recognize that fact I'm having pancakes...again

And they were the bomb.com. We are in the process of opening up our own breakfast restaurant where she makes the food and I think of creative ideas.  Want to come to there?

For lunch we (Julie and I) went to Dexter’s and I got a mushroom quiche with a side spicy bulgur and chickpea salad.  Both were equally as good and I will certainly be getting them again…tomorrow.

This week they are selling grab bags at the union on campus.  You could win a plethora of great things (that for some reason they couldn’t sell at our student store…gee I wonder why..)so naturally Julie and I had to make a big ordeal of buying some and being really cool.  They are only $2!

Oh Em Geez Grab Bags!

So Excited to open them!

My exact words to go along with this photo were...OH NEATO! PS I swear my roots aren't this bad, it was the flash of the camera

Biodegradable cleaning wipes!

No technology wipes for Julie...so sad.

PS: Some other neat things were a battery operated pencil eraser, many key chains, a bendable bracelet, shotglass and book titled “The best things in life begin with G”.

But on a different note, since I have been getting a lot of questions about my heel injury…

I promised you guys I would never do this but so many people have asked how I recovered from my heel injury so quickly.  Well for starters,  I didn’t run.  AT ALL.  NONE. It was very hard but I would rather the outcome of being healed then being more injured.

Second, not only did I ice, I heated every single day.  There was seriously not one day that I didn’t do both.

Third, I had (and still have for the next two weeks) my heels wrapped in KT Tape.  If you haven’t heard of it, it’s awesome and good for a lot of different injuries.  So if you ever get injured (obviously go to the doctor) but look into KT tape.  It’s like God’s gift to my life (that and pancakes).

All wrapped up.

All heeled. (I'll make this small so you can quickly look away)

So there you have it.  Cross training and KT Tape was my life the last two weeks.

PS: I finally got into the pool and swam 3000 yards.  I am not dead, just a little waterlogged so you might find me a little more strange than normal the next few days.  I bet you didn’t know that was possible…

Question for you:
1.       Have you ever been injured?  What happened?
2.       Are you a smoothie/soft serve pro?  Give me some tips.

  1. I used that tape when I injured my calf last year. It is awesome. I strained my left calf muscle :( But it is all good in the hood now and I’m glad yours is healed too!

No I’m not a smoothie person. I like to chew my food :)

  2. When I used to run in highschool I actually twisted my knee and it hurt like a beyotch! But I honestly just followed the doctors rules pretty darn well and did all the physical therapy asked of me.

And as much as I love smoothies, I am always still hungry after I eat them!

  3. AAAH yum chocolate soft serve+pancakes!! My kinda food!! :D I basically just add nut butter and cocoa powder to all my smoothies/soft serves/food and it just makes it the BEST.

I am injured. Boooo. But I am resting up, seeing a professional tomorrow and ICING THE HELL OUT OF MY SHIN. And eating lots of chocolate because in my book that is a recovery food :P

  4. So I’m sort of obsessed with ginormous voluminous smoothies and soft serve. I did a post on how I make mine and it should be on my recipe page if you’re curious. I like to freeze juice ice cubes and blend them in so that I don’t lose flavor when I add normal cubes.
What does the KT tape do? I’m not injured, but I’ve seen injured people with the tape. I never really understood what the point of the tape was though.

  5. I have never really been injured — I think I’ve been close from overtraining, but I back off and rest for a while and everything seems to heal up nicely. Thanks for the recommendation on that tape — something to keep in mind.

I love smoothies — I don’t have any tips, mine are practically what you made there!

  6. I looove smoothies :) i haven’t had a very severe injury before, just shin splints which I kept running on. And I started getting something with my achiilles tendon, but before it became a big injury I switched to barefoot running, :)

  7. AHHHH. Come to Pittsburgh and make me waffles and soft serve. Puh-lease. I will pay you in clinical knowledge and expertise and be your personal PA. My sister has already claimed me but I can share time.

    Yayyyyy biodegradable wipes? Kinda?

  8. I consider myself a pro at eating soft serve but not making it sorry:( Yours sure does look yummy! I have some KT tape that I received at a Disney race but the only time I “injured” myself was running 4 miles on the beach, a.k.a. my calves felt like crap, and I didn’t think about using it! I’d like to add that I agree with the book you got in your grab bag. The best things in life begin with G, like Grace!

  9. $1,000 for a bike on CRAIGSLIST… geez, do those people know it’s Craigslist? I could see paying that or close to it in a specialty bike store, but people go on Craigslist looking for a deal. I wouldn’t spend money like that unless I was going to do a couple of triathlons, I don’t blame ya.

    Smoothie and pancakes look yumminess…

    A.L.

  10. You have me saying bomb.com in real life now. Hahah.

You were very smart about your injury. I forget though, how long did you take off running?

I am the worst at making smoothies. I never know what to include besides peanut butter.

  11. I really admire you. I used to be a big-time runner and crap happened…anyway, I only walk now. That is all. For almost three years. And its mentally and physically agonizing. The worse part of it is that I feel I don’t “deserve” grains and certain foods anymore since I don’t exercise. I hope I can break that mentality. Your abilities and positivity are awe-inspiring.

  12. Oh my goodness, I absolutely dig the chocolate soft serve! I have yet to try nanner soft serve.

I’m just now hoppin’ on the smoothie train, but cocoa powder is definitely a must!

Oh girl, injuries. Don’t get me talkin! But I’m currently dealing with a hip flexor strain that I got from an improper warm up at a bodycombat class. Even though it’s a minor strain, I still can’t do the things I love to do like running. So lately it’s been spinning and weight lifting. But icing and massage is really helping!

  13. That chocolate soft serve looks delicious!! I need to buy a food processor to blend up my nanners, I tried it once in my bullet without milk and I thought it was going to die on me lol My recent obsession has been casein with xanthan gum, it’s like pudding! And sprinkles?? Yes please :)

  14. AHHH Sprinkles! Love it :) I’m obsessed too…It’s ok though..they do make everything better. Craig even told me how much he loved sprinkles, he always felt weird putting them on ice cream or whatever…because well, he felt a bit girly- LOL ;)
I also would really like that chick pea salad- it looks delicious!
& love your blue toe nail polish- hope they heel keeps continuing to heel..I know how hard it is not to run.

  15. xantham/guar gum kind of make me gag when it is in smoothies. I don’t know what my prob is. It’s a texture thing. It’s like…glycerin or something.

and oh hell yes I’ve been injured. I’m a runner, so that is an annual must. too many boring details to share, but they are usually hip related.
