Typical Thursday

Today was a typical Thursday.    But um, when thas my life really been typical?  I suppose I bring it upon myself but sometimes my days are boring-I swear.  Those are days I actually do an entire day of eats.

In case you are just tuning in, I go observe classes in the high school on Thursdays.  Today-I even got to do a demo lesson!  I taught about supplementary angles, traversals and all that jazz to 10th graders. (and the kids understood-I think)!   I was so tired this morning and waking up at 6am really didn’t work well in my life.

What did work was having my own America’s Next Top Model Shoot instead of getting ready for school.  Real girl outfit number 5 was Micheal Kor skirt, Hollister tights (oh yes I went there its cold up hurr), BCBG white lace top and crew green tank and kt tape on my ankle because that is part of my awesomesauce outfit.

Speaking of America’s Next Top Model-um why hasn’t Alex gone home yet?

This is the photoshoot from last night.  Do you like the Blondes or Brunettes?  I always have liked darker hair (although clearly by my roots the other day need to work on that situation.)

Blondes!

Brunettes!

My natural hair color=blonde (not dirty but not ultra bleach blonde).

I found a photo from my natural days..aka high school.

After I got back to campus, I went and had lunch at our dining hall with Bonna.  I broke up with the dining hall about 3 months ago, and have gone from going everydayish to going maybe once a week or so.  It was heading my life into a cycle that I didn’t want to go too.  Now that I have cut ties with it-I realize they actually have decent food.  Can you believe that?

Greek Salad. Olives+crumbly blue cheese=key to my heart

Roast Beef Sandwich

—————–

Today was a run and (are you ready for this) a swim day too.  Neither of these were meant to be fast at all (in fact my run is supposed to be slower then my long run.  I love recovery runs, just slow long miles baby).  I ran 7.3 miles and swam 3000 yards in a little less than two hours.  I actually did this all in a row-how my brain stayed focused that long was the real question here.

—————-

Today Blogging BFFS is the last day of March holla.  Which means let’s welcome in some April Goals.

1.       Gradually increase milage and replace the Arctrainer (sorry Blogging bffs we are having a long and slow breakup, the Arc and I.  I will still agree to see him once a week when my milage begins to increase).
2.       Try a new recipe once per week.
3.       Try a new food on campus at least once per week.  I normally get a quiche and the same side salad-but I’m changing I swear.
————-

Question for you:
1.       Any April Goals?
2.       I need your help.  I need to interview 3 people that use different types of supplements (this could be protein powder, multivitamin, fish oil).  But anyways-I will love forever if you email me at lolzthatswim@gmail.com allowing me to interview you.  You’ll be famous and my BFF forever.  I mean what more could you want in life.

It was Christmas in My Gym Today

My tummy was finally settled last night and I could return my normal day of eating.

This morning I had my typical waffle with Greek yogurt because I’m boring (ya know…).  I went and took my math test (which I rocked…proofs and modern algebra have nothing on this girl.  So there.) obviously and then I went to do some Arctrainering.  To my surprise they were finally fixing up the Treadmills today!  Um-If I haven’t complained about my school’s treadmills-they were awful and I hated them.  Hence why I forced an injury upon myself just so I wouldn’t have to run on them. Just kidding.

That worn down part is a legit pot hot! On the treadmill...who knew that was possible....

But at least they were fixing the boards.

or flipping them. I have no preference because I won't be on them.

But that saw dust made me not want to be there-so I kind of left after a hot second. It was, however, beautiful outside.  Is this seriously the only day that Upstate NY weather is better then 99% of the rest of the country?

I cleaned my room after don't worry Mom.

I’m kinda a neat freak although you could never tell in this photo.

The temperature was between 40-50 and sunny!  I even got to run in shorts.  Well spandex shorts because that is how I roll.  I changed my schedule around a little bit and the next few runs are recovery runs at a much slower pace.

My new running/swimming plan includes a lot less Arc and a lot more running.  (but minimal swimming to give my little legs a break).

—————-

Tonight for dinner I decided to grill up some salmon patties and a massive amount of brussel sprouts and mushrooms.  Yes-I did 4 servings of both.  I don’t think the serving size listing is really a Hollie serving size.

I never cooked sprouts before because I didn’t think I would enjoy them too much.  All the media really does give them a bad rap and sometimes I can be a baby and not try new things.  But that was a bold face lie in my mind.  I will be buying more and devouring them-like I devour mushrooms.

Question for you:
1.       How the weather near you today? (No-I’m not trying to hit on you with small talk unless you’re into that…)
2.       Running outside>Arctrainer=Swimming>Treadmill>Gym bikes> Other Ellipticals  What is your view on this situation?

A Day of Noms

I had a different sort of post for today but hunger struck today, so I just thought I was meaninglessly ramble for a while instead.
But first a pose a more serious question to you…
Have you ever had days that you were just hungry beyond control?  Like you could eat an entire plate of pancakes and not be phased.

Oh yes my friends it was one of those days.   I’m okay with it though, which is good for me.   You need to rely on your body to tell you if you are hungry, and allow for certain fluctuations.  Staying at the same amount of calories every single day is so unreasonable.  So today, I just ate (not mindlessly mind you) until my body said okay you are done now.

My body and I have great conversations-normally it consists of feed me more pancakes and I reply with yes yes I’m so sorry-what on Earth was I thinking.  But I try and listen to my body and not feel guilty for anything I put into my mouth.

But moral of my rambles is somedays your body just requires more calories. It happens to everyone, maybe you worked out more (in my case I didn’t).  Listening to your body and eating your calories when your body requires more random days will help you so much in the long run. I think I am finally starting to rely on intuitive eating and I could not be more pleased.

So here are some of my noms:

Let's begin the day with a chocolate waffle

and move onto about 2 pounds of grapes (yes-I eat grapes by pound...I would live off of them if it was socially acceptable.)

One of my Snickers Marathon Bars in class yes pleasee

Artichochoke Quiche and Greek Yogurt for Lunch

My Nova Lox Bagel to end the day (not)

I’ll probably have some ice-cream while I study too-what can I say… I had both lunch and dinner with my Arctrainer BFF Justin today.  I mentioned this a few blogs ago but Justin ran his own PERSONAL marathon (on the treadmill) on Sunday.  He has basically become my gym and hangout buddy because we are seriously twinnies and he puts up with my constant chattering on the Arc.  That and he will even eat with me afterwords.

Oh yes and a lot of them are repeat photos but when you are constantly eating-your camera isn’t always on hand.  HA.  I was not about to wait to eat for my camera.

In fact-it fueled me for a nice run today in the snow.   Seriously it was warmer than it has been the last few days which makes me unmotivated.  Don’t ask why (because I’m a weirdo for real) but nice days make me less motivated.  I am so glad I went for the run though because I felt amazing.  I had the fastest workout I have had since cross country season.

Long story short-I held almost the same pace I held the fastest time I did that loop during cross country season.  I’m either coming back a lot stronger or swimming really had an effect on my running and I was just too naïve to tell.  I’m thinking I should have listened and that it had a big ole’ effect but either way-it was an awesome run.  I can’t even express to you guys how happy I am right now.  I’m on a straight up runners high.

If only I liked Cheezburgers

Questions for you:
1.       Do you have days where you are just hungry for everything and anything?
2.       What makes you not motivated?  (in anything, studying, working out, knitting….)

Current Obsessions: KT Tape and Grab Bags

Thanks guys for all your words of wisdom about Triathlons.  I’m kind of nervous, and I did look on Craigslist but sadly bikes being sold there are close to 1000 dollars (in my area at least)  and I can’t promise myself right now that that money would be worth it.  So I’m still looking around.

Good thing very few of you live anywhere close to me because I’m in ultra creep mode for a bike.  Oh yes also thank you for your advice on my blog.  I think I was too vague in explaining what I meant but I was just having self reflection of my blog and I’m not planning on changing anything.   So you can never get rid of me.
———-

PS: Speaking of last night, I made chocolate soft serve for my belly.  So delicious. I have been eating them alongside whatever else I eat…not in place of because I’d still be hungry after for realz

You need some cut up frozen bananas…you can choose how many you want.
1/8 Cocoa powder
Sweetener to your liking
Protein powder
½ tsp of Xanthem Gum
Put into your blender

And then today I also had a fruity blast smoothie! This time I didn’t have any bananas left so I threw in:

about 1 cup of blueberries and raspberries
½ cup Greek yogurt
1 tsp Xanthem Gum
Seriously, can you tell I’m obsessed yet?

Yes-I will always add Sprinkles...they are kind of a big deal.

And can you tell I can’t get enough of Julies cooking too because she made blueberry pancakes.

If I use her plates...you'll never recognize that fact I'm having pancakes...again

And they were the bomb.com. We are in the process of opening up our own breakfast restaurant where she makes the food and I think of creative ideas.  Want to come to there?

For lunch we (Julie and I) went to Dexter’s and I got a mushroom quiche with a side spicy bulgur and chickpea salad.  Both were equally as good and I will certainly be getting them again…tomorrow.

This week they are selling grab bags at the union on campus.  You could win a plethora of great things (that for some reason they couldn’t sell at our student store…gee I wonder why..)so naturally Julie and I had to make a big ordeal of buying some and being really cool.  They are only $2!

Oh Em Geez Grab Bags!

So Excited to open them!

My exact words to go along with this photo were...OH NEATO! PS I swear my roots aren't this bad, it was the flash of the camera

Biodegradable cleaning wipes!

No technology wipes for Julie...so sad.

PS: Some other neat things were a battery operated pencil eraser, many key chains, a bendable bracelet, shotglass and book titled “The best things in life begin with G”.

But on a different note, since I have been getting a lot of questions about my heel injury…

I promised you guys I would never do this but so many people have asked how I recovered from my heel injury so quickly.  Well for starters,  I didn’t run.  AT ALL.  NONE. It was very hard but I would rather the outcome of being healed then being more injured.

Second, not only did I ice, I heated every single day.  There was seriously not one day that I didn’t do both.

Third, I had (and still have for the next two weeks) my heels wrapped in KT Tape.  If you haven’t heard of it, it’s awesome and good for a lot of different injuries.  So if you ever get injured (obviously go to the doctor) but look into KT tape.  It’s like God’s gift to my life (that and pancakes).

All wrapped up.

All heeled. (I'll make this small so you can quickly look away)

So there you have it.  Cross training and KT Tape was my life the last two weeks.

PS: I finally got into the pool and swam 3000 yards.  I am not dead, just a little waterlogged so you might find me a little more strange than normal the next few days.  I bet you didn’t know that was possible…

Question for you:
1.       Have you ever been injured?  What happened?
2.       Are you a smoothie/soft serve pro?  Give me some tips.

I need my Triathalete BFFS and their Advice

I need my Triathlon people and their help.

I know how much I have always detested them and rambled off about how biking really hurts my hips, but  I want to enter a sprint triathlon-you know test out the waters with the biking portion.

See how it goes. What I don’t want or need, is to spend a fortune for a bike only to find out that I actually I enjoy biking as much as I thought I would.  (meaning none). What is a girl to do?  I have a beach cruiser bike (which would most certainly not be okay) and my brother has a mountain bike (which I really don’t want to use either but is better than option A).  Anywho any advice and words of wisdom would be amazing.  The race is:

1k swim
20k bike
5k run
So if any of my Tri pros (or biker pros) could give me some advice-we could be biker bffs too.  :)

Also yesterday-I was testing out larger pictures versus using smaller.  I haven’t quite decided what works better with my layout yet.   So tell me your opinions on that too.

——————–

I have been reflecting a lot about my blog lately and deciding what sort of path I want to take with it.  Do I want to become a strictly food blog, do I want to just focus on swimming, on running, on both, on my nonsense of a life, on my curly hair, on math…you know the list is quite endless.

Then it hit me-I started my blog with the intentions of recording my healthy eats of an athlete (and true eats always) but it has kind of migrated a lot into my shenanigans and such.  I’m okay with that as well, although I’m not too sure my life is that exciting.  Anywho, I’m going to get back into doing weekly tallies of my working out to get a good feel for my training.  I didn’t really do this when I was injured because how exciting can saying that I spent my life on an Arctrainer be?  Yeah…not so much.

Please don’t train how I train, it is what works for me and I don’t intend for it to be a schedule for how you should train.  I take rest days when my body needs it, not scheduled in and that has always worked well.  We are not the same person and you are better off that way because god knows that world doesn’t need my twinnie.

So stats this week are
5 hours of ArcTrainer
31 miles (24 outdoors)
2 lifting sessions
Oh yes and no heel pain.  That is very important.  Actually-the most important!

I also feel the need to tell you I broke out my Burton hat and had the most fabulous run since cross country season today. (And yes-I wear my hair in a side pony..it's kinda my jive)

My goal next week is to replace 30 minutes of my Arc time with about 3.5 miles so we will see how that goes.   So here are the goals for next week:

35 miles (as many outdoors as possible)
2 hours swimming
2 lifting sessions
4 hours of elliptical

Oh yes and about the history being made (minus my decision about Tris).

I.Am.Getting.In.The.Pool.Tommorrow.

GASP!    It’s true.  I’m going to swim for 1 hour tomorrow and get between 3000-4000 yards of slow easy swimming in.  Wish me luck.  ;)

With that I leave you-and the fact that Julie makes the best French Toast in the world I had an awesome weekend at her house.

WithWhip Cream!

Question for you:

What is your favorite topic to ramble off about in your blog (food, athletics, knitting…)?  If you don’t have a blog what is your favorite topic to talk about with your friends?

Oh yes and any Bike advice would be oh so helpful.
