I’m a Prepster Mathematician

I fell asleep extremely early last night.  I don’t remember the exact time but I was laying in bed and all of sudden I wake up and it’s seven am.  Go figure my body needed some major sleep.  I have been lacking in that department lately. For me sleep deprivation is less than 8 hours.  I cannot and will not function very well.

Today my math professor said I looked like a prepster mathematician.  I surround myself with only the greatest teachers obviously.  That and I feel I amuse every single one of my math professors…needless to say I’m not the typical math major and I’m always okay with that.

For breakfast today, I had strawberry short cake pancakes.

Did I mention how pancakes fuel my 7 mile runs?

I got a question the other day of why I choose to run 7 miles to begin my base training, not ten, not five ect.

All my favorite running routes are 7 miles long (plus or minus).  So it has just become a comfortable running distance for me.  I don’t really have an exact reason but it is a distance I can run continuously and not be sore.  Today, however, my calves were on fiyaa.  Somehow I ended up doing the same exact pace as yesterday.

(Incase you wondered-it was snowy and cold so I opted for the lucky dreadmill)

My second workout, however, consisted of a bit of cross training and some lifting.  (I can’t let my lil ladies beat me in my own strength class this summer now can I?)

It was rather crowded when I went and the machines that I love were all being occupied.  I am a very intense person and normally I get really worked up about these sorts of things but today I just reminded myself that there are other machines and some people are in greater need then me.  It just shows me how much I have progressed in the last year with being spontaneous and not letting little things bother me.

I began doing what we normally do in class to warm up to that and as time progresses I’ll switch machines/routines/ect.

3X12(bicep curls, hammer curls, triceps kick backs) 15 lbs

This is done continuously with a break after each round of 12 bicep curls, 12 hammer, and 12 triceps.

Then I did some various core exercises among my favorite an ab roller! These things are nutzo.

Dinner tonight was with some cross country (and future) ladies at our dining hall.  I had an olive based salad with crumbly blue cheese and some pot roast.  I had some chicken and sweet potatoes that went unphotographed.

Day 20:

Your views on education:

Well in case you have never read my blog or heard me ramble about my love for math, I want to become a math teacher.  I feel very highly for secondary school; however I do believe that college is not for everyone.  Not every job requires college and I do not believe every person in the world is ready to go to college.  I do however, believe that everyone posses the qualities to graduate high school.

I think that there is a lot of room for our education as a country to improve, but it has to begin with the attitudes of americans.

Question for you:

1.       How do you react when your favorite machine/workout tool is taken at the gym?

2.       Tell me about your favorite type of pancakes.  Feel free to post a link to recipes.

3.  What are your views on education?

  1. I get really upset when the treadmills are all taken and I have to get a run in. Then I’m fuming because don’t these people know I’m training for a marathon?!

    Other than that, I don’t really get bothered.

    I love chocolate chip pancakes! Yummm.

    I like you believe that college is not for everyone. We need people who do other jobs that do not require a college education and I do not judge people who do not go to college.

  2. Ah I get so frustrated when I have to wait for machines and only get to use it for 30 minutes! When I’m at the gym, I have no patience. I think there are many ways for people to learn instead of college. One of my friends did a semester at sea sailing around the world before heading to college, and it was a perfect experience for her. I wish I had the chance to travel without any obligations!

  3. Wait I love your teacher, he/she/it is hilarious! Slash it’s tooootally fine, I am a giant fan of 7-milers, somehow they are just the perfect distance. When you come to visit we have to go for a runn girlie girl and chat all things crazy running and life rambling:)

    and I tend to tweak out if either the treadmills are full or ellipticals……. ill let you know about weights when i man the eff up and start doing them hahah

Chocolate chip pancakes-hands down the best thing EVER!! :) I don’t mind much when people are on the weight machine/exercise machine that I wanted to use; I usually just go with the flow and do whatever’s avaliable. I’m definitely not like that with everything though! Like when it comes to restaurants…I can be very picky!!

  6. I dont use gym machines a whole lot, but today I wanted to use the treadwall (a revolving rock-climbing wall that moves down as you climb up) and some guy was on the mat beneath it doing SITUPS! Helloo? Maybe he was alternating them with climbing because if not, that was just dumb. We have so many mats.

    I do agree that some people are just not cut out for college and everybody doesnt need to go to get a job. It does annoy me, however, when people my age have no clue what theyre going to do when they graduate high school – and dont care. No goals, no plan, just gonna hang around this little town and live with their parents. >:(

  7. Well let me tell you when my spot is taking in the gym. I walk over notify them that they are using my elliptical then they kindly disperse the area. If not i give them the look ha. Those pancakes look really yummy would really like some! I think education mostly college should be free like most country’s. Its really mind blowing how much we pay for education. And for some people with the high cost and fear of not being able to pay back the bank people do not go to college but yaa.

  8. Whoa, in the magic bullet? And how do you get your yogurt to look like whip cream? Can you make it taste like that too? lol

    And it sucks when all the good treadmills are taken..especially by freaking walkers. Haha, tonight, on the treadmill in front of me, this girl dropped her ipod and she had to stop and get off and get it. Hahahaha and then she did it again like 5 minutes later- it was great. And then this other dude answered his phone will running lol. Well, he was slow so it didn’t matter, but still!

    And don’t waste time with biceps and tricep exercises. Do compound movements that use those muscle secondarily with other muscles; like pull-ups and dips or push ups. And squats!

    • If I ever tried to pick up my phone while running it would not end well. I don’t even bring my phone to the machine unless I’m awaiting something important which has been twice in all of my working out.

      I just slapped that yogurt on there. I didn’t even realized it looked similar to whip cream. It’s how I always pot my greek yogurt on my waffles/pancakes.

      I do those exercises in the beginning because I need to start planning on routines for my aerobics weight classes. In a few weeks when I have everything figured out I’ll go back to dips and other machines.

  9. education is awesome! i love learning stuff and think that you can’t go wrong by getting as much education as possible. not only do i aquire new knowledge, i learn so much about myself during the process of going to school. i could be a student for life!

  10. To be honest I get pissed when my machines are taken — but I just wait my turn. No big deal. The gym is super busy lately (there is some promotion going on) so I just have to accept that if I go to the gym after work it is going to be packed. I could get my butt out of bed before work and have the gym to myself, but I’m too lazy!

    I love pancakes — honestly my favorite is regular old Bisquick ones — my dad used to make those when we were younger and I still love them.

  11. I totally LOLed at your anything less than 8hrs is sleep deprivation.. im the EXACT same way.. im DEAD and yawning and cranky if i get less than 8..

    Your olive salad looks AMAZING! I love olives!!

    My favorite pancakes have to be PB and Chocolate.. I make chocolate pancakes and top with PB.. Im a big fruity pancake eater too.. anything with delish fruit ontop is good!

  12. Currently when I go to the gym I’m only using the treadmill…but so far so good there has been on available. Not many people are in the gym when I’m there so that’s always a plus.

    My favorite pancakes would have to be buttermilk, from scratch. My grandma makes some awesome pancakes let me tell you :) A close second would be chocolate chip…but I only get those if I go out, no one likes them like I do so they aren’t made at home.

    Ah education…that’s a big deal in Wisconsin right now. A lot of school districts closed today, or there were some students that walked out yesterday…I plan to blog about it because it is some important stuff going on in my neck of the world.

  13. The pancakes look AWESOME ! I don’t usually get TOO upset when people hog stuff at the gym.. I get nervous if I am training for a race and every treadmill is being used.. i’m like CRAP haha. I think you are going to be a good and fun math teacher :]
