Factual Friday: Blogging Edition I often get asked why I started a blog, or why I chose to read the blogs that I do. So here I am answering all those questions. I have read a lot of different types of blogs throughout my short blogging reading time, some recipe oriented, some athletic oriented, others completely random. It really just depends. If you are interesting and I can easily stalk you then…perfect.
Reasons Why I don’t Read a Blog/Or Stop Reading One.
1. You post novel every single time that doesn’t keep me interested
I don’t do well with posts that are longer than the textbook for class that I have to read. A blog is the excerpt of your life, not a second to second update. That timeline I did yesterday, was a bit boring for me to read even I thought.
2. You post five posts a day
I can’t keep up with your skills. I have to get my math homework done and venture out into the real world occasionally.
3. You aren’t personal.
I like to know what you look like. It makes it more interesting. Post pictures of yourself, have a photoshoot on your webcam. You don’t have to be excessive like I am, but it is more interesting that way.
Another important aspect is replying to comments. Reading a blog that is so distant from its readers does not make for an interesting blog.
I’m not saying that I need to know that you and your boyfriend are on the fritz screaming at each other every night, but I would love to know what you are up to versus would had for breakfast every morning.
4. Not enough photos
This goes along with 1, I have a tiny brain and don’t even enjoy reading for class.
5. Too many photos
Sometimes I don’t want to see a picture of your ingrown toe nail. Ew and enough said.
You’re Boring and Unoriginal
I’m sorry, I love you guys a lot but some blogs preach the exact same foods. I feel like I’m reading five of the same peoples food diaries. I like to eat exotic and weird things and I like it when you do too.
7. You don’t go out and have a good time or you don’t post it.
Once again, if you haven’t notice, I march to the beat of my own drum. If you post about how you stay in every single night and you are perfect and never in your life had a piece of cake. Well sorry, I eat cake and candy all day everyday and can’t really relate to you and your extremely health ways and I won’t find your blog interesting.
Question for you:
1. Why do you read the blogs that you do?
2. What is your golden tip for blogging?
I love to hear about peoples’ lives! And I agree on the cake thing. If you are perfect, it is just not good for me to be reading.
I read blogs by folks who write about things that interest me. Namely, chocolate and swimming. But also healthy cooking, especially with veggies (balance, yo).
I get annoyed when bloggers are ALWAYS upbeat and happy. Be real, please. Nobody’s like that. And if you are, I want to punch you.
I don’t like normal everyday mildy-maybe-interesting blogs. Nothing against the person writing, but I only have so much time and I won’t read something every day that’s just the typical life of half the people I know! I try to make my own blog interesting and try to vary the topics.
I like reading barefoot running blogs, swimming blogs, or blogs that just “click” with me and are interesting and fun. Also,I like it when people reply to comments!
Im sorry but purely food blogs bore me. I dont need to see fancy pictures of every little healthy thing somebody ate today and how many miles they ran. Include LIFE, and maybe I will read!
I hope I dont gross you out with all my feet pictures! Lol
I completely agree with all your reasons why you stop or don’t read certain blogs. I especially think it’s important to let your personality show on the blog and not just post workouts and food!
I try to only blog when I have somethingninteresting to share. I always ask myself if I would want to read what I’m posting about.
This is such a true post! I HATE blogs that don’t have enough pictures! jw, how long is too long for a blogpost? Are mine too long?! Ah! I just want it to be interesting to readers and myself so hopefully we’re all good:) I read blogs based on the writer’s personality a lot. I love people who are naturally funny and don’t care what the world thinks, and I also love optimism!
I like to read blogs of people who I think I’d be friends with in real life. Other words, I’ll know after two or three posts if they seem pretty awesome, or if they’re someone I would have avoided in college. Your blog rocks, by the way!
Yuuup I pretty much agree with you on all of those.. I hate when people don’t have pictures!! Hope your meet is going well
I’m nodding my head the whole time I’m reading this post!
I love pictures, but I don’t want 500 pictures of your oatmeal at all different angles.
I also don’t need pics of not so pretty food, sooooo close up.
I agree too that a personal blog is the best. Respond to readers and let them know that you care about them and appreciate their thoughts.
I find little satisfaction commenting on a blog when hitting submit is like throwing my comment in a black hole.
OK that’s enough out of me.
ok one more…i struggle with people who portray their lives as perfect! I understand keeping blogs positive, but why do they need to be perfect? ok now I’m done!
Amen. I like seeing other people have drama in their lives for real.
Wait girl I love you, I completely agree. As a student though it’s so hard to respond to comments quickly! I always feel bad but I love my bloggy boos!
I read the Blogs I do because they make me inspired and laugh:) I love all things shenanigans and crazy eats!
Slash my v-day plans = a raw brunch! Holllaa:)
I love reading your blog
. Basically, if I think a person is someone who I’d hang out with in real life, I’ll read their blog… and I do read a wide variety of blogs, everything from running to recipes to couponing to personal blogs
. I like yours because it’s about running but it’s also real. Not a fan of the running blogs where it seems like every run is super long and perfect for them! Gotta keep it real
.
I read blogs that make me laugh or show me something different. I’m not a huge fan of food blogs because sometimes they all blend together. I really just like learning about other peoples lives and people who are sarcastic and keep it real keep me interested. Everyone’s different and blogging allows you to really see that and see how people express themselves.
My blogging til would be to say whatever is on your mind and not hold back. People will always judge you but in the blogging world you can always find someone to agree with your opinion.
Also…let us know the supit stuff you do. We’re all human.
My Valentine’s day will consist of my first day of Franklin and maybe I will get to deliver a baby. If not, I will drown myself in 100 grand bars and a chick flick while skyping with Mike.
oh yes and reading blogs!
Ha-My life consists of many stupid decisions. I need blogging topics sometimes…bahaha.
Good tips Hollie!
I agree with number 1…long posts are rough!
I like when I know the blogger’s name..oddly sometimes it’s hard to find out!
Hi hi hi
I hate reading blogs from girls who swim and run… and I hate when they make pancakes and waffles all the time…like who does that??
Umm but seriously I like blogs about running anddd people who make food because I can’t make food slash live vicariously through most of the blogs I read hahah. Pictures are a MUST annnd I usually like when they keep it relatively short.
Oh and I like people who have struggle through something, not just people you were born speed demons and twigs hahah I envy those people.
(haha love this blog)
I dislike when people show pictures and say they ate a ton, when I could eat 10x that much.
ps. please let me know if I do any of the above!
Girl,
You’re Spark blog is the first blog I ever religiously followed!
Haha you nailed it! Sometimes like 5 posts a day makes me wonder… I barely have time for one or 2 a week! I think fun pictures to mix up the text is important too. And most of all, have fun! I like your blog a lot
How did swimming go today??
These are so true! I have to relate to people by pictures and fun facts from their lives that show they aren’t perfect. I hate reading a daily journal of every single snack someone eats.
I read based on personality of the writer. If you’re funny, a smartass, and put yourself out there, I’m interested. I like being amused!
I like this post! It makes me think more on what people actually want to read/see!:)
i read blogs for recipe inspiration primarily. but i get hooked on them when the author’s personality shines through in their posts. you can actually get a feel for them and what they are like, not what they think they should be like. makes sense?!
hope you are having a good weekend! did you do a wrap up of your swim that i missed? i scrolled through and couldn’t find one. maybe i am being dense today.
I just posted one this morning actually.
I hope I don’t do any of those things! Lol
I read the blogs I do because I find them interesting and inspiring.
I love your blog Amy!
LOL!!! Loved this! You are to funny.. But its all so true.. I need interest to stay up on things.. I dont feel like i get around to peoples blogs enough (yours included) But you DO keep me interested so i always Wonder what you are up to!
