Ouchies in My Foot

Okay so be ready to be jealous of my life.  The best thing about being a math major is that the week after a test you don’t do anything.  Anything at all.  Sure you have a little bit of homework (maybe one or two proofs) but nothing else.  Which is why I had time to finally update my blog a little bit to something more Springish (and so I could stare at pancakes more often…).

On a side note-about my header.  I don’t normally run in two piece bathing suits but that was during a run-swim-run race and this girl is not about to get chaffing from a one piece suit.

So with no tests coupled with Spring Break is in a week, I’ll have no work the week of break and the week during break.  So I’ll be blogging to you guys aka my bffs!

Before I begin with ya know my week of bores and snores, I thought I would make a few March goals.  If you haven’t read my last few blogs, I cannot run.  It’s ouchies all the way.  It is looking to be severe irritation in my right heal or a calceineous stress fracture.  I’m about to go to all TMI on you but you can skip this part if you want too.  So here are all my symptoms relating to a fracture:

1.       I rushed into milage.  (Yes that was my fault).  I did, however, take a step back but needless to say I could have taken two.

2.       It looks like I got bruised heel implants on my right foot.  AKA it was swollen out the ying yang last night.

3.        It happens to woman who have been having irregular meetings with their bff TOM..which has been my life for the last year and a half.  I hope you understood that reference or I’ll bluntly say it next blog.

4.       I need new running shoes.

5.       My body was not used to the hard surface of the treadmill.

So yes, I have been in and out of my college trainers office and my cross country coaches office all day today.  I’m getting ultrasounds all week in my heel, (to make sure it’s not some ridiculous irritation) and if indeed it does not get better, I’ll be getting an Xray and all that jazz.

But it leads me into my goals of March.

I just want to be active without running.  I want to let my body heal (no pun intended considering it would be a heel stress fracture…) and try new things.  We will see how it all goes.  I also want to begin getting more and more calcium to my diet.

In the meantime I’ll just eat lots of pancakes.

Maybe you are feeling berry chocolatly with chocolate raspberry pancakes?

Question for you:

1.       Have you ever fractured/broken a bone?

No for me (as of now) and lets home it stays that way.  I drank milk so much as a child, I probably got about 500% (seriously) of my calcium intake every single day.

2.  Do you have any goals (or big plans) for March?

Food Inc

I wrote a thrilling and captivating blog entry for today about Food Inc and then realized I hated it and it basically said nothing that I really believed.  So it was a load of crap and I deleted it.

At least I’m honest with you guys….Honesty is my best policy and my biggest pet peeve is liars.  (and men who don’t make me pancakes on demand.)

So anyways, for Nutrition class we had to watch Food Inc.  I found it highly entertaining and personally this was one movie that you didn’t find my face against the desk and drool coming out.  Have you ever seen a math movie?

Yeah…neither have I..I seem to watch the back of my eyelids during those days of class.

————————

But really about Food Inc…Before watching the movie, I knew my diet consisted of a lot of fish, pancakes, fruit and veggies and a mass amount of Greek yogurt.  I got most of my protein from eggs and fish and steak about once or twice a week.  It isn’t that I don’t like red meat and poulty-I’m just very unskilled at cooking it.  When I’m back home I’ll eat a lot more when my mom prepares it (because she does an awesome job-shoutout to mom!) J

Something that really struck a nerve with me is the prolonged section of chicken farming.  My parents own a second house about 90 miles north, (where my donkey lives…) and about 5 minutes from that house is a chicken farm.  I won’t lie to you-it always smells when we drive by it and I honestly never knew how those chickens were being treated.  I don’t really like to think about it too much what goes on in there.

I’m not in any way promoting not eating (or eating) chickens, it’s a rather disturbing thought though of how some of them never see the light of day, and the thousands that live in one house.  Did I ever tell you we used to have two chickens along with the donkey?  They were scary maniacs and roamed about 50 acres.  The chickens in the coup barely got to roam the 2 feet around them.

Another depressing aspect the movie discusses is that fact of how healthy food costs so much more than unhealthy food.   I really think if healthy food was cheaper a lot more people could afford to eat healthier food.  Unfortunately it’s not, and so many families are forced to buy the most for their money.   I went to the supermarket today, and I got some produce, Greek yogurt and a few other oddball things for about 30 dollars.  I could have gotten 10 bags of potato chips for that price and been fed for a solid month.

------------------------

I’m hoping off my soap box now.  Let’s chat.  What do you think of Food Inc?  Are you a vegetarian?  Do you eat a lot of meat?

Like I said before, it isn’t that I hate meat or poultry.  I just find other things to eat, and will eat those instead.  I enjoy eating eggs and fish more because I find it easier and quicker to prepare when eating for one.  I’m not a picky eater when it comes to cooking at home so I’m pretty easy to please.  As far as restaurants, I love eating fish out because it’s always cooked so much more skillfully then I could imagine doing.

The movie had a pretty big effect on me and taught a lot more than I ever thought possible of where our food came from.  I highly recommend it to anyone who likes documentaries.  You won’t be disappointed.

Oh Canada!

If you were curious about my Baby Newtons, click here.  Newton running shoes are designed for people who run on their toes (which is me)…I run like a straight up ostrich.

So I would recommend Newtons to anyone, they are a bit pricy but I don’t think I’ll wear them over anything else.  Except in cross country, when I wear either my racing flats or spikes. If you are more curious about Newtons feel free to ask me.   Since, I’m about to replace them I’ll probably just order then online giving me multiple colour options.

Today Julie and I went to Canada (Cornwall), and then to the Casino.  Obviously a good time.  We needed to really get away, which was nice.

If only you could see our shoes...

Before I left I had a workout date with Caitlin, obviously.  We just did the arctrainer for about an hour and chatted about life.  Seriously, if you ever want an obnoxious chatty workout buddy-I got your back.  Unless I’m in the running zone, but seeing how I can’t really run right now that isn’t a problem.

Our time in Canada and at the Casino was obviously amazing.  Even though we didn’t stay in Cornwall long, we still had a great time. We are going to plan an overnight Casino adventure sometime in the near future and all my blogging BFFS are obviously welcome to stay.

We stopped at a Canadian chain called Kelseys, and I got salmon, mashed potatoes and beans while Julie got balsamic vinaigrette chicken penne and a bud light.  Which is 4% alcohol versus the 3.5 in the US.  She thought the bottle was so much better than in the states.

nom nom nom Salmon!

Balsamic Chicken Penne

New York Style Cheesecake in Canada. WIN!

On a side note-I haven’t died of starvation the last few days and actually had some good eats.

Pumpkin Pancakes

Greek Salad. Olives+Crumbly blue cheese=key to my heart

Sweet Potato+Salmon Patty. Another Key to my heart

Question for you:

1.       Favorite Quote?

I rather love this one from my calendar yesterday.

2.       What type of running shoes do you run in?

If My Life Consisted of 10 Items…

I didn’t die I promise.  I have just been extremo-busy.  Extremely+mucho?  HA acceptable.  I had two big math tests today which meant as much as it depressed me , I’m sorry Jersey Shore-I couldn’t watch you.  Actually, I purposely don’t watch it at night so I can watch it at the gym.  I just couldn’t catch up on my blog reads.

I think both my tests went really well though.   My brain is fried though so I will be doing nothing that requires intelligence tonight.

———————–

The other day someone asked if I could only have ten material items in my life-what would they be..  Well besides food, clothing a house, water blah blah blah.  I actually do have a few items that I use nearly or more than daily.   These aren’t in any order just how they popped into my mind..  Most probably aren’t too shocking.

1.       Coffee maker  (It is programmed to be done making my coffee at 7:30…when I wake up)

2.       Greek Yogurt (I just love yogurt.  Judge me if you want)

I believe I have doubled my stash since then.

3.       My baby Newtons.  I may or maynot have named my running shoes my baby newtons.

Baby Newtons

4.       Headbands…I now have 49.  Yes after I promised myself I would not buy anymore, but you and I both know that wasn’t happening.  So close to 50.

Which one will I choose?

5.       Leggings.  Embarrassing but I don’t wear pants.

6.       My flair pens.  All my notes are taken in pens, math included.  I can’t really take notes in pencil or on my laptop.

I have about 20 colors. I just stuck to the basics for you.

7.       Heels.  I don’t wear pants, I don’t like tennis shoes either.  I hate that the cold cockblocks my abilities to wear heels allday everyday.

Um yes, I will be wearing these to the casino tomorrow.

8.       My Vera Bradley wristlet.  If I lost this (knock on wood), I’d have many different problems.

She's a bit dirty though, might be time for a new one.

9.       Camera.  So I can document my life for you guys to stalk me.  Obviously.

10.   Bloomie.  Um cuddle buddy all the way.

Some items I could live without though are my cell phone (which I didn’t have for a solid two weeks when I broke it and loved it), my ipod (I use it abou 50% of my workout time,) , blue jeans (I just hate jeans) and the TV.  I’m not the biggest TV fan unless it’s ANTM or trashy tv during my workout.

Question for you?

If you could only live with ten items what would they be?  What could you live without?

Play Go Fish!

You guys make me so happy that you have unusual freckles all over your body too.  I used to get made fun of so much in middle school about them.  (Don’t worry that wasn’t the only thing ha.)  One time I counted and I have close to 100 moles/freckles all over my body.   I actually have to get a mole removed from my neck sometime in the future…or never step out in the sun again.  Which even sounds better is beyond me…

Today was more of a comfort food day. I have been stressed with various aspects from running to school to home.  My heels have been bothering me a lot from treadmill running (and I think I need new running shoes).  So I’m taking a few days off of running. I do not have plantar fasciitis which actually very uplifting news for me.

So needless to say, I have been rather bummed I can’t get my run on the last few days.  I can, however, get my lift and cardio on via other methods.  Cross training does wonders you know.  (Don’t worry-I’m embracing not being in the pool and not going to go as far as cross training in there…now ha).  I have been gong between the Arctainer, elliptical and stationary bikes.

So anywho-when life deals you crappy cards

Play Go fish.

Because you can always trade for better ones.

So that is what I’ll do-bite my time and wait for my heels to not be bruised up.  Then take it nice and slow from there.

When in need of comfort, I go straight to my number one.  Obviously pink sprinkle pancakes I bought on clearance from Wal-Mart.  Steal.  Any pancake mix on clearance is actually a steal and sprinkles just make it better.  I also had a Chobani black cherry yogurt on top.  I’m a fan of thick and creamy Chobanis and just as the lemon, this isn’t my favorite.  I will stick with vanilla and honey I think.

Comfrot Food to the max

I had lunch with Kelsey and Julie today.  I had a squash quiche and glass noodle salad.  The noodles seriously look like tentacles and it has some other vegetables such as tomatoes and peppers.

Then we split this gingerbread cake.  Um, the lady asked if we wanted whip cream and we said okay and I think I got my cake with a side of whip cream.  It was nuts.  It was okay but I’m actually not the biggest fan of gingerbread so I didn’t eat too much.

Seriously. A side of cake with that whip cream.

Question for you:

1.       What helps you cope with depressing situations?

2.       What is your favorite comfort food?

My final regards are that I’m having a personal party while watching Americas Next Top Model in my room.  I’ll be painting my nails and drinking hot cocoa.  All my blogging and reader Bffs are obviously invited.  (That means you!)  Expect an indepth analysis tomorrow of my season favs.
