ScatterBrained Part 2

This blog is literally all over the place. It resembles my inner thoughts-so if you were ever to pick apart my brain, I’m not entirely sure you would get anywhere.

So Saturday will mark the second day in a row I have not done any physical activity. I’m going crazy and I literally could not wait until Monday morning to get my butt into the pool-for two practices. I know I’m a bit crazy-one rest day is hard for me let alone two. I’m okay with it though-I’m about to dive (ha no pun intended) into the hardest and most grueling part of my training in a couple weeks. Swim swim swim. It boils down to about 12 swim practices each week for 3 weeks.

My email is finally working. It was down for a solid two days. I came back and I had over 50 unread messages. I’m still catching up so eventually I will get to them all-I swear.
So with that being said, I have finally decided to start using my Gmail account for this blog. I have been telling myself I’ll create one for ages-but have I really? Anyways if you have a comment, question, ect send me an email at lolzthatswim@gmail.com.

You may have noticed, I also got a twitter. I don’t know how to use it and god knows it took me a decade to learn Facebook, MySpace and WordPress. I would love for you to follow me @lolzthatswimrun (wow-that sounds a tad creepy eh?). Those people will 1000 followers; I can’t even pretend I have that many friends.

I am looking at new cameras for Christmas. I have it narrowed down to the Nikon d70 and am also looking into Canons. What is your preference, do you know anyone with either of these cameras? If you have any insight-I would love for your thoughts and opinions.

Oh my goodness. Di @The Treadmill Diaries is having a Christmas Card giveaway. She hand makes these cards and they are beautiful. You should first check out her blog, then enter her contest. Her cards are almost as beautiful as her transformation and her truly inspirational story. Anywho-check it out! :)

Saturday

My morning started at 7am. I packed up all my things, made pumpkin pancakes and was on my way to the airport at 8:30.
Since I have three tests and a presentation this week, a layover of about 3 hours at JFK airport doesn’t bother me too much. But in case you wondered here is a list of my productive ventures of the day:
1. Chose a new blog layout and created a header
2. Studied some good old modern algebra
3. Learned that you can get a winemaking degree at Cornell.
4. Tried something new again. For lunch today (after spending a fortune in the airport)-I had a chicken, cheddar and cranberry sandwich. Try saying that three times fast.
It was quite delicious although I picked out all the onions because I’m not a fan of those.

Worth 9 dollars?

One Day I'll ride a Big Girl Airplane again...

I ended up getting back to school at around 9pm last night. Once again I could have driven faster but I guess no one trusts me on the roads…I did get a lot of work done though that I obviously couldn’t have gotten done while driving.

Monday:
I had found flavor and fiber bars at Tj Maxx the other day, so I had one of those before practice. I bought the lemon ginger bars and I have no regrets although the Chocolate Brownie bars didn’t look either.

We are in our first taper of the season. Our training is done on two intervals, we dip low in yards for the next couple of weeks and then in three weeks spike back up for the rest of the season.
1000 warmup
400 IM
3X100 Backstroke
2X400Pull
2X200IM
300 Backstroke
16X100 IM Interval (I seriously thought this was a joke…)
8X25 Free All out
300 Kick
300 Pull
I hadn’t used peanut flour in a while so I decided to make peanut flour pancakes.  With recommendations to get more fat in the morning, I topped with peanut butter instead of greek yogurt.

Then it was off to Sports Psychology which we didn’t end up giving our presentation. That means Aram and I will have to wait until Wednesday. Our presentation is on examining the runners high and how exercise effects you cognitively and all that jazz. If you are interested, I could most certainly post excerpts on my blog.
For lunch, Aram and I went to Dexter’s. I hadn’t been in a while and decided on a chicken pita pocket with grilled veggies and mozzarella cheese with a fruit salad.

The second practice of the day was more IM. I forgot I was a freestyle distance swimmer.
1000 warmup
8X100IM Interval
3X200 Backstroke
3X400IM
16X50 Free interval
800 Pull
4X200 (50 kick-back-free-back)
Aram made dinner tonight. He grilled steak, sweet potatoes and mushrooms. A rather simple meal-but one of my favorites. I topped my sweet potato with Greek yogurt. He is becoming such a pro cook ha.

Questions for you:
1. Do you have any knowledge of cameras you can bestow on me?
2. What is your favorite simple meal?
3. Do you Tweet?

  1. Wow. So much to comment on today. The chicken, cheddar cranberry sandwich looks very good. (of course I start with food comments). And I can vouch for the brownie flavor & fiber bars from TJMaxx – they’re filling & yum.

Cool about you starting to tweet. I’m still a Newbie at it and am figuring it out but people are great & supportive.

Totally interested in your presentation findings on the runner’s high & the effects of exercising on the mind & body. It’s pretty powerful stuff.
And finally thanks for mentioning my blog & giveaway. You’re very kind. :)

  2. As for cameras, I want a canon rebel digital SLR so bad. My old photography class had some that they fundraised for so long to get, and it was worth it! I personally loved them.

I dont tweet – although its been tempting at times, I have enough stuff to do already. I dont have a FB either but my parents wont allow me to anyway. I might get stalked ha. :)

  3. I’m with you on the rest days!! I HATE taking them! My favorite simple meal is egg beater omelets with a sandwich thin!

  4. beware long post:

i have shot both canon and nikon. nikon is better for sharpness of pics, it is a more intuitive camera but harder to work and their their lenses are of higher quality and durability. that said, i bought a canon because i prefer prime lenses and canon cant be beat on availability, uniqueness of lens offerings and image quality balanced with price. the canon 7d is a spectacular camera. i have a 40d and it is great but the low light sensitivity is lacking. a canon 50d would work, as would the latest rebel. if you purchase, i would recomend a newer refurbished or the latest model because low-light sensitivity is well worth it. here is an example. with my 50mm 1.8, my 40d in low light at 1600 iso can only give me about 1/40 and with camera shake and subjects moving you never get a sharp photo. with a new 7d i bet your iso 6400 would give you a great sharp photo at 1/250 that would freeze action and you can clean up the noise and nobody would notice.

i am elated for you that you had to take time to relax. take it from a 36 year old former athlete. rest is so important that i wish i would go back and take more days off. i could have easily run sub 4:40 miles if i would have listened to my body and let it recover.
take care and rest up, even you mind… you have alot going on and one day you will be so jealous of the relaxing time you have now

favorite simple meal is a turkey sandwich with tomato, avocado, romaine lettuce and veganaise with guyere cheese
