Oh so Original Turkey Trot and Thanksgiving Day Blog

Well this morning started off at 6:53am because that is what time I set my alarm. We left the house at 7:30 to go race.  In the car was my father, my best friend Anna, my brother and myself.

My brother, Matt, was running for the first time in about 2 months-he had a knee injury.  He was taking a nice “slow” jog as he puts it.  He finished the 10k in 49 minutes.  I wish that could be my slow jog.   He ran a half marathon in 1:33 before he hurt his knee.  Luckily though, his knee didn’t hurt at all today.  He is going to some big Nike innovational cross country race on Saturday with his team.

This was Anna’s longest race ever.  She finished in a time of 1:32.  She was happy and maintained her normal 5k pace.

My dad was very happy with his results and got 48 minutes.  He is coming off of running a couple longer runs a few days ago so he wasn’t expecting to do that well.  He did a lot better than he thought though.

I broke 45 minutes and got a time of 44:17.  I also was first in my age category.  I was pretty shocked but I didn’t hear my name and my brother ended up getting my trophy.  I had run back to find a few of my friends and run with them to the end (including Anna).  I know in May I will improve a lot more because I’ll be back into Running season.  These road races I do now, I’m not too worried about my time.  But on a side note-last year I ran this race and was at 1:07-so I dropped 23 minutes!  My how my running has changed over the last year.

Did I mention I got a swell trophy?  I got 1/104 in my age group.  A lot of the faster females weren’t there.  Don’t get me wrong-I’m happy I got 1st but I know a lot of the females I normally see winning the age group weren’t there…

And here come the oddities random thoughts of my day before my actual eats.

Whoever found my blog using the term fat belly dancers.  I’m your girl!  A fat belly dancing woman.

I am using this time to really rejuvenate my locks.  My hair is shedding worse than a sheep in summertime. The chlorine has done a number on my hair that I’m not used to at all…our pool chemicals have been crazy the last month.  What is your favorite and best conditioner?

Because I love stuffing.

How was your Thanksgiving?

  1. mine is not going too well….I ate until my stomach actually HURT! I never eat like that, and dont eat these type of fatty foods. I think that adds to it too.
    YOU DID AWESOME! great run!

  2. I understand your struggles.
I am struggling with hyperthyroidism so I eat everything in sight right now. …
I admire your drive for health and your energy for sports. (Congrats on your 10 K time..that is tremendous!!)
Remember to be gentle on yourself and not be too hard on yourself about the food thing. You are beautiful and tomorrow is a new day.

  3. great time girl!

when my hair gets thrashed (i have long LONG fine FINE hair, so it happens whenever i actually, you know, dry and style it on a regular basis) i use a deep conditioner daily (the ones where they’re meant to be left in for 3-5 min then rinsed) usually till the bottle runs out. i’ve done pantene, and then some sort of yummy smelling one i’ve gotten at walgreens for like $7ish.
if you put conditioner in, then shave, it gives it a good amount of time to soak in… that’s how i time the “3 minutes” thang.
hairdresser told me you want conditioner that says it has protein in it…. i usually go for that.

  4. Congrats on finishing first in your age category at the race. Great overall time – obviously more than good enough to beat out 100 girls. Nice.

Don’t be too hard on yourself about the eating. You’re learning what situations you can / can’t be in right now and that’ll help you have better days in the future.

Had a great day on this end. Started out with my race and then hanging out with the family.

  5. Great job on the race! 23 minute improvement?? That’s incredible! Was this the Mount Trashmore race? I actually swam today- after the rest of my workout I was able to get in a quick 1600 before they kicked me out the pool lol

I’m glad you had a good Thanksgiving and don’t worry about anything today- it’s Thanksgiving. Think instead about the amazing time you had with your family and friends! : )

  6. I used to have the same problem. Then I grew up in a sense. I now view the holidays differently. Instead of worrying about what will be served there, I just focus on hanging out with my relatives and playing with the kids. Talking to people gets me distracted and I don’t focus on the food as much. Hope this helps :)

  7. Congrats on improving your Turkey Trot time from last year!!

I love stuffing, or dressing whichever you call it, as well. I usually take more than I can actually eat and try to stuff it in even though I should stop but this year I took small portions and if I wanted a bit more I only put a little bit more on my plate instead of loading it up again.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend at home!

  8. hey girlie!
I loveee your green thermal! soooo cute! and your headband is adorable! I hope you are having an awesome weekend at home, enjoy it you deserve the down time!
    xoxo!

  9. First, congrats on the Turkey Trot! I wish we had a race Thanksgiving morning where I live. I did run though. Then I came home to 5casserole, 5other sides, turkey, ham, pumpkin pie, and more desserts. I totally overdid it. I mean WAY overate. I am identical to you in that I can’t be in buffetsor be alone with desserts. I can’t control myself. I’m 26 and it’s been this way since college. I want to get help so I can be normal, but I’m kinda embarrassed. Anyways…girl you are beautiful! If you overeat, don’t worry. If you’ve gained 10 pds. I don’t know where it went! You are an amazing athlete and super sweet girl and blogger. I love your blog!

  10. Re your hair shedding more than usual. There could be a number of causes for this.
Have you been ill in the past few months?
Have you gained or lost a significant amount of weight recently?
Have you changed your diet recently?
Are you getting enough nutrients? Specifically iron, B vitamins, selenium, zinc, vitamin C, and protein.
    Is your thyroid working normally?
Have you started any medications recently?
Have you stopped taking any medications recently?
    Are you drinking enough water?
Have you been through an emotionally stressful time recently?
    Are you over-exercising?
Some things to think about there – hope you figure out what is causing the shed.
