Eggs and Toast

I feel like I have been advertising giveaways a lot in my blogs lately. But when your favorite blogs that you follow like it’s your job have giveaways how can you not? On a side note-blog reading would be the most fabulous job. You could get one of those desk treadmills and get your exercise in while blogging.

I can't even walk and drink coffee at the same time...

Anywho-

Jaimie@FoodinRealLife is having a cook book giveaway. A lot of the recipes are made from similar ingredients and using similar methods. It seems so easy and for people who are afraid of change and need to follow a routine (like me.) While you’re there check out her blog because you’ll begin to follow it like it’s your job too!

Since this is the distance swimmer “bonus practice,” of the week it is a little shorter. By bonus, I mean distance swimmers have to do an extra practice on top of everyone else so this is our practice of extra yards.

1000 warmup
4X100 (kick-swim-drill-swim)
8X50 Back
800 Pull
400 IM
5X200 Free Interval
4X100 IM
400 Pull
100 Kick

Today marks the first day in a good old while that I did not have pancakes for breakfast. Pancakes have always been my staple food and not having them makes me extremely uncomfortable. Breaking out of that is a big step for me. Which sounds pretty silly when I type it all out.

I had made up my mind yesterday that I wasn’t going to have pancakes, waffles, or French toast for breakfast today. Today I am pleased to announce that I stuck to a rather simple breakfast and made 3 overeasy eggs, ½ cup egg whites, toast and grilled tomato. I normally have about 400 calories for breakfast of pancakes so I tried to have roughly the same amount. This really made me forget how much I do love eggs. I didn’t know where to start there was so much food on the plate for 400 calories.

When I lived in England, grilled tomato was included in any breakfast and I absolutely love it. If you have never tried it, I highly recommend it. So get your George foreman and grill up some tomatoes.

Here is the second pool workout of the day:
1000 warmup
400 IM
250 Backstroke
800 Pull
5X200 Free interval
3X200 backstroke
5X300 IM interval
400 Kick
10X50 Backstroke

As you can see-I’m alive and well and didn’t have pancakes. :)

What did you have for breakfast today?

ScatterBrained Part 2

This blog is literally all over the place. It resembles my inner thoughts-so if you were ever to pick apart my brain, I’m not entirely sure you would get anywhere.

So Saturday will mark the second day in a row I have not done any physical activity. I’m going crazy and I literally could not wait until Monday morning to get my butt into the pool-for two practices. I know I’m a bit crazy-one rest day is hard for me let alone two. I’m okay with it though-I’m about to dive (ha no pun intended) into the hardest and most grueling part of my training in a couple weeks. Swim swim swim. It boils down to about 12 swim practices each week for 3 weeks.

My email is finally working. It was down for a solid two days. I came back and I had over 50 unread messages. I’m still catching up so eventually I will get to them all-I swear.
So with that being said, I have finally decided to start using my Gmail account for this blog. I have been telling myself I’ll create one for ages-but have I really? Anyways if you have a comment, question, ect send me an email at lolzthatswim@gmail.com.

You may have noticed, I also got a twitter. I don’t know how to use it and god knows it took me a decade to learn Facebook, MySpace and WordPress. I would love for you to follow me @lolzthatswimrun (wow-that sounds a tad creepy eh?). Those people will 1000 followers; I can’t even pretend I have that many friends.

I am looking at new cameras for Christmas. I have it narrowed down to the Nikon d70 and am also looking into Canons. What is your preference, do you know anyone with either of these cameras? If you have any insight-I would love for your thoughts and opinions.

Oh my goodness. Di @The Treadmill Diaries is having a Christmas Card giveaway. She hand makes these cards and they are beautiful. You should first check out her blog, then enter her contest. Her cards are almost as beautiful as her transformation and her truly inspirational story. Anywho-check it out! :)

Saturday

My morning started at 7am. I packed up all my things, made pumpkin pancakes and was on my way to the airport at 8:30.
Since I have three tests and a presentation this week, a layover of about 3 hours at JFK airport doesn’t bother me too much. But in case you wondered here is a list of my productive ventures of the day:
1. Chose a new blog layout and created a header
2. Studied some good old modern algebra
3. Learned that you can get a winemaking degree at Cornell.
4. Tried something new again. For lunch today (after spending a fortune in the airport)-I had a chicken, cheddar and cranberry sandwich. Try saying that three times fast.
It was quite delicious although I picked out all the onions because I’m not a fan of those.

Worth 9 dollars?

One Day I'll ride a Big Girl Airplane again...

I ended up getting back to school at around 9pm last night. Once again I could have driven faster but I guess no one trusts me on the roads…I did get a lot of work done though that I obviously couldn’t have gotten done while driving.

Monday:
I had found flavor and fiber bars at Tj Maxx the other day, so I had one of those before practice. I bought the lemon ginger bars and I have no regrets although the Chocolate Brownie bars didn’t look either.

W

We are in our first taper of the season. Our training is done on two intervals, we dip low in yards for the next couple of weeks and then in three weeks spike back up for the rest of the season.
1000 warmup
400 IM
3X100 Backstroke
2X400Pull
2X200IM
300 Backstroke
16X100 IM Interval (I seriously thought this was a joke…)
8X25 Free All out
300 Kick
300 Pull
I hadn’t used peanut flour in a while so I decided to make peanut flour pancakes.  With recommendations to get more fat in the morning, I topped with peanut butter instead of greek yogurt.

Then it was off to Sports Psychology which we didn’t end up giving our presentation. That means Aram and I will have to wait until Wednesday. Our presentation is on examining the runners high and how exercise effects you cognitively and all that jazz. If you are interested, I could most certainly post excerpts on my blog.
For lunch, Aram and I went to Dexter’s. I hadn’t been in a while and decided on a chicken pita pocket with grilled veggies and mozzarella cheese with a fruit salad.

The second practice of the day was more IM. I forgot I was a freestyle distance swimmer.
1000 warmup
8X100IM Interval
3X200 Backstroke
3X400IM
16X50 Free interval
800 Pull
4X200 (50 kick-back-free-back)
Aram made dinner tonight. He grilled steak, sweet potatoes and mushrooms. A rather simple meal-but one of my favorites. I topped my sweet potato with Greek yogurt. He is becoming such a pro cook ha.

Questions for you:
1. Do you have any knowledge of cameras you can bestow on me?
2. What is your favorite simple meal?
3. Do you Tweet?

Seafood Eats

If you are addicted to watching the news in the morning, like myself, you will see Northern New York is in the snow belt.  God I can’t wait to go back to school tomorrow…this 50-60 degree weather is nothing compared to that…not.  So here to my NY friends, is why you go to school out of state.  You get the best of both worlds.

I regret to inform you, due to a power outage at my college, my email is down.  I will hopefully catch up with you guys tomorrow if you have emailed me.  :)   Too bad I needed to do my work on blackboard but of course that is down too.  Hopefully my food isn’t spoiled up there.

For dinner last night we went to Don’s Seafood Restaurant.  I had the seafood platter which included an oyster, scallops, flounder, and a crab cake.  I forgot it also included shrimp until I saw my picture.  Oh my goodness-it was delicious.  I love having so many different types of seafood at my fingertips.  My mom also got the same thing.

Seafood Platter

Anywho-I’m still on the Eastern Shore today.  My parents decided they wanted to stop at a breakfast buffet this morning.  Oh great-the one place I wanted to avoid-buffets.  Maria’s had the atmosphere of a diner but was an actual restaurant.  I’m pleased to announce that I didn’t go overboard-I didn’t even eat until I was full.  I had two plates (and after taking those two pancakes, I took one bite and decided they weren’t as good as I had anticipated.).  It was actually a huge accomplishment for me to go to a buffet and not overeat.

Maria's Breakfast Buffet

Eggs, pineapple pancakes and french toast stick

French Toast Sticks, eggs and sausage gravy (I decided I was not a fan of the sausage gravy)

Mystery Sausage-it was like a breaded sausage...I'll never figure it out.

For lunch today, I was content but my dad insisted that we try the best ice-cream in Chincoteague.  I must say it was possibly the best icecream in the area-I had cake batter and vanilla buttered rum.  Although-I haven’t had “Mr. Whipys” which the locals kept raving about.  Then I was full until dinner ha.

Best Ice-cream?

We got stopped though-some passerbyers were hogging the road.  We literally waited for about 20 minutes because these beauties wouldn’t pick a side.

Dinner we stopped at a place on the way home called Stingrays.  If you are ever going down the Eastern Shore of Virginia let me know and I’ll point you in a some delicious eats.  I actually asked my mom if we could go to another restaurant called Sunrise which has more than fried fish but she really wanted to go to Stingrays.  I had salmon, a baked potato and to try something new-I went for baked pineapple.  Oh boy that is delicious.  I never even know people baked pineapple.  I am glad I am in my trying new things mode.

—————

Day 2 was a neutral day for me.  I didn’t get to work out today, but I didn’t binge eat either.  Although-I’m not sure how ice-cream qualifies for lunch…but when in Rome…It was a mini success for me this morning at the buffet-but I am still going to not eat a lot at our school buffet.

This trip made me realize how much I miss good seafood, so I’m sure you will see a lot of that on my blog in the upcoming days.

Have you ever taken a mini vacation with your family?

Revisiting Goals

Okay after last night’s episode which involved lots of crying, wailing, thinking and going to a movie (YAY Harry Potter)?  I have come up with an outlined plan for going back to school on Monday.  I have been whining and complaining about the weight I have gained.  But in all honesty, I have been eating like a madwoman.  I could blame it on my exercising but how does eating 20 cookies make a better runner ha.  I have constantly said oh yes-I’ll change and stop eating them and has it happened?

No, no it hasn’t.  I sound like a smoker that just can’t quit.  To think I always thought it would be so easy.  Go cold turkey and you won’t miss it.  Well-I enjoy cold Thanksgiving turkey for one and two I need to let go.  Food shouldn’t control your life, it should make you happy without worry.  Here are my goals revisited:

1.      I will weigh myself every day.  For now this is what will get me back on track.  Having 10 pounds glaring at me (just like when I was running and my legs were rubbing together.)

2.      I will try something new at least 3 times a week.  Experiment-live a little, new recipe new something.

3.      I will have a different breakfast once a week that does not include French toast, waffles or PANCAKES.  I will not have any of them for lunch or dinner either.  I really do need to learn my life will go on if I don’t have the food at all during the day.  I will name it weird Wednesdays.  Which brings me to my next objective, please share your favorite breakfast recipe.  Advertise it here and I promise you, I will try it.

4.      I will also stop complaining like it’s my job.  There is no one to blame and make excuses for.  And who enjoys complaining blogs?  Not I.

Goal time: January 1st.  I leave for Puerto Rico with swim team.  We go on a yearly training trip and will be in a bathing suit all day everyday for 7 days.  I will be confident enough to rock it.  Since I have gained this weight, I have been stressed and not confident in myself and I have been having low self esteem.

It isn’t because of the actual weight that I put on but more of how fast It happened and how I did it.

But that isn’t the only reason believe me.  Feeling very full all the time isn’t the most pleasant feeling in the world.  So I have changed my time frame to lead into January 1st.

Day 1:

So I thought I was doong well by going to the pool…I wish I had actually looked at the practice beforehand.

1000 warmup

4X200Kick-Swim-Drill-Swim

800 Pull

2X1000 Free Interval (12 minutes)

(400-300-200-100 IM)

400 Cooldown

Those timed 1000s actually weren’t as bad I thought.  We hadn’t done any the entire season so I knew it was a matter of time.  Now just weight for the 2 mile swim we will have sometime this year.

Anywho-I’m up on the eastern shore of VA at my parent’s other house.  My mom is doing a craft show so we decided to haul our butts up with her and visit the other house.  I shall post a blog tomorrow or sometime soon of all my delicious eats up here.  I love love love seafood and the Eastern Shore of Va/Maryland has some of the best Seafood in my opinion/.

What is your favorite type of seafood?

I like salmon, flounder, crab and scallops.  I also really enjoy imitation crab at Chinese Buffets which really bothers Aram.  I find it delicious.

Today I have done really well and avoiding any situations that have put me in danger of binging.  I also been out of the house for a good portion of the day though.  J

Oh so Original Turkey Trot and Thanksgiving Day Blog

Well this morning started off at 6:53am because that is what time I set my alarm. We left the house at 7:30 to go race.  In the car was my father, my best friend Anna, my brother and myself.

My brother, Matt, was running for the first time in about 2 months-he had a knee injury.  He was taking a nice “slow” jog as he puts it.  He finished the 10k in 49 minutes.  I wish that could be my slow jog.   He ran a half marathon in 1:33 before he hurt his knee.  Luckily though, his knee didn’t hurt at all today.  He is going to some big Nike innovational cross country race on Saturday with his team.

This was Anna’s longest race ever.  She finished in a time of 1:32.  She was happy and maintained her normal 5k pace.

My dad was very happy with his results and got 48 minutes.  He is coming off of running a couple longer runs a few days ago so he wasn’t expecting to do that well.  He did a lot better than he thought though.

I broke 45 minutes and got a time of 44:17.  I also was first in my age category.  I was pretty shocked but I didn’t hear my name and my brother ended up getting my trophy.  I had run back to find a few of my friends and run with them to the end (including Anna).  I know in May I will improve a lot more because I’ll be back into Running season.  These road races I do now, I’m not too worried about my time.  But on a side note-last year I ran this race and was at 1:07-so I dropped 23 minutes!  My how my running has changed over the last year.

Did I mention I got a swell trophy?  I got 1/104 in my age group.  A lot of the faster females weren’t there.  Don’t get me wrong-I’m happy I got 1st but I know a lot of the females I normally see winning the age group weren’t there…

And here come the oddities random thoughts of my day before my actual eats.

Whoever found my blog using the term fat belly dancers.  I’m your girl!  A fat belly dancing woman.

I am using this time to really rejuvenate my locks.  My hair is shedding worse than a sheep in summertime. The chlorine has done a number on my hair that I’m not used to at all…our pool chemicals have been crazy the last month.  What is your favorite and best conditioner?

Because I love stuffing.

How was your Thanksgiving?
