The first swim meet of the season! Hooray! Today began though, at 5:15am when I walked over to cross country bus to give them the muffins I had made. They texted me and said they were fans.
Then I crawled back into bed and ugh slept right through the time I was supposed to run. I am really far in mileage again so I needed to get in a run today. We will see-if it isn’t in the cards it’s not and I’ll try harder next week.
We had our morning “wake-up swim,” for distance swimmers at 9am. Our coach requires anyone swimming the 500/1000 or people who take longer to warmup to come in a few hours before team warm-ups and swim about 2000 yards. This isn’t so bad until away meets when the buss leaves at 6am and we have to swim from 5:00 or even earlier. I always do the same routine and have found it works for me.
1000 Free
800 Pull
200 IM
I came back and made myself Red Velvet Pancakes because I have pancakes everyday and switching up my routine before a race wouldn’t be good now would it?
I’m pretty impressed by my logic there ha.
The moment you have all been waiting for:
The Swim Meet!
I wish I could somehow flower this up and say that I did really well but that is not the case. I don’t want to sound like a downer and believe me (I have come to the understanding all races are not your best.) However, this was my worst college swim meet to date. I went times slower than my freshman year and I was cognitively not involved in the meet. That is okay I suppose. I wish I had more to say about it, but I would rather not think too much about it. It’s in the past and I can only hope next week will be better.
Aram took me out to Lobster House afterwards since I was clearly upset. I had Princess Lobster with a baked potato. We got stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. I was still in a Debbie Downer Mood so didn’t really take too many photos at dinner last night.
Anywho-Stay tuned for my Halloween Party Blog. I had a blast! Here is a preview of the final costume.
Question for you: What do you do to bounce back from bad races/events?

an 8000 PULL!! YOU ARE CRAZy! hahaha. just kidding. Im sorry to hear your race didnt go as plan. I COMPLETELY can relate to that. But going out next week and kicking butt is what we do best- you go girl!
Also I love the costume! What was Aram? Also, cant wait for more pictures. hApPy HaLlOwEeN!!!
Oh my gosh! I meant to say 800 pull-how could I have missed that. Ha I don’t think I could ever swim 8000 yards straight ever.
haha. I would have believed you!
Omg I did a double-take too when I saw 8000 pull! haha.
I love your pumpkin costume though! So cute.
and Happy Halloween!
I’m sorry your race wasn’t the best … I know how that can feel.
Keep on training and putting in the hard work like you’ve been doing and you’ll bounce back. We all have an off day now and then.
Cute costume!
I am digging the tights! You should rock them on a regular day outside of Halloween
YOU LOOK AWEEESOME! hottest pumpkin ever. keep pushing girl- you are so awesome and such a freaking beast!
Sorry to hear about your race, but DON’T beat yourself up over it & remember that is IS the beginning of the season, you will ONLY get better. I bet next meet you will TOTALLY kill it

The lobster looks fabulous.
So sweet of you to make muffins for the CC team- I’m sure they appreciated it
Adorable costume! Happy Halloween!!
Hey Hollie, I’m sorry about your meet! I hate when I do really bad, but I usually take that as an opportunity to talk to my coach and see what I can improve on, you know? That was really nice of Aram to take you to lobster house
Your costume is adorable!
Ok, wow. Please share the red velvet pancake recipe.
I’m loving the costume!
hey girlie!!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
I am loving your pumpkin costume, seriously so so so cute!
to bounce back from meets that dont go well, I used to write in my swim-log things that I can do better at the next meet…for example: go out faster in the 1000, race the last 200 of the 500 instead of waiting until the last 4-laps…things like that really get me pumped up for a week of training and the next meet ahead!
Don’t stress over what you can change, but focus on the things you know you can do!
You will go faster next meet, I have no doubt!
Have a fun and festive sunday!
xoxo!
Great blog! No worries on the meet- it happens! You’ll tear it up next time, no doubt. I actually swam today….something I’ve GOT to do more. Maybe you can give me some tips to get faster!
