Lolz[thateattoomuchpumpkinandyogurt]

Here are my current obsessions:
1. Greek Yogurt. I decided I’m saving all my yogurt containers for storage. At the moment, I store all my coffee and sweeteners in them. I feel in a month-I’ll need something else to use them for. This is from the first month of school and doesn’t count all the individual containers I’ve bought hehe.

2. Pancakes-I don’t think I need to explain hehe.

3. Canned Pumpkin-How sad this is only half of my collection from my recent hoarding experience.

I could lie to the blogging community and say that I haven’t already used an entire can of canned pumpkin since my purchase yesterday-but too my credit I did make pumpkin pancakes for two.
I wasn’t sure I was going to do a food blog today because if you haven’t noticed-I’ve updated other things around the blog. Including a new article about swimming!

I swear last night all I could think about was making pumpcakes in the morning so when I woke up this morning (thanks to an elbow in the face) I was ecstatic! I literally jumped out of bed and into the kitchen. The pancakes are were just as I remembered and I put them in a bowl and topped with Chobani vanilla yogurt.

Pumpcakes in a Bowl

12:30pm-After a couple hours of studying, I went to the student union and got a (don’t judge me please) Pumpkin Spice coffee, some pears and apples.

2:00pm-It must have been a chobani yogurt bowl day. I made cinnamon pear and apple on top of yogurt. I had never made it with pears, but I didn’t know what I was missing. There is about 6 ounces of yogurt somewhere in there. :)

4:00pm-Yes, indeed. I finished off the can of pumpkin with a protein pumpkin smoothie. I didn’t take a picture because pumpkin shakes aren’t too eye-appealing. That is my general consensus with all my shakes that come out of my magic bullet. I’m going to buy a fancy cup like this to display them in.

Chocolate Pumpkin Protein Shake:
6 ounce Greek god yogurt
½ cup canned pumpkin
½ scoop whey protein powder
1 packet hot cocoa mix

It was a strange combination of ingredients that I was surprised went to together as well as they did.

6:00pm For dinner, Aram and I went to Lehman dining hall. Tonight was prime rib. They finally realized I was a hungry girl and gave me a large piece of Prime Rib. I don’t like the fat of prime rib, so there was obviously a lot I cut out. I also had fruit salad. The end of family weekend marks the end of my dining hall produces the best food possible ha. I had mangos and strawberry fruit salad.
Tonight I’m back to studying and of then morning practice tomorrow. Hopefully with my rest day, my body will recover from be reading for practice tomorrow.

Watching Swimming

A Basic Guide to Watching Swimming

Swimming is a rather complicated, little known by the outside world sport. Every four years, it dominates the Summer Olympics but what about after that?

Does swimming just ceased to exist in the public eye after that?

Well yes-unless you count when Michael Phelps had his incident with drugs.

It humors me because there are many more swimmers that compete at a national level versus NFL players but a person off the streets wouldn’t be able to name more than one. Honestly though, I don’t mind it. I don’t mind how secluded swimming is to the public eye-just periodically explaining to my nonswimming friends what actually happens.

Step 1: The Pool
To understand swim meets you must first understand where it all starts-a basic pool. A pool can be any of the following lengths for competition, 25 yards, 25 meters or 50 meters. Most standard competition pools in the United States are 25 yards versus the rest of the world which is on the metric system. An Olympic sized pool is 50 meters. Short course is considered 25 meters and long course pools are 50 meters.

When watching an event, it primarily counted by lengths.  For instance, in a 25 yard pool,a 200 event consists of 8 lengths.  The swimmers mile (1650) is 66 lengths.   That number is cut in half when swimming in a 50 meter pool.

Step 2: The Strokes
There are four competitive strokes.

Butterfly

Backstroke

Breaststroke

Freestyle

At a college level they are combined to make the following events:

Freestyle: 50/100/200/500/1000/1650

I am known as a distance swimmer, so I swim anything above a 500. A sprinter swims the 50 and 100 as well as relays. The 200, is an event the either distance swimmers or sprinters may engage in.

The Strokes:

Backstroke/Breaststroke/Butterfly: 100/200

Individual Medley: 200/400

The individual medley (or IM) is a combination of the four strokes. It is done in the following order: Butterfly, backstroke, Breaststroke and then freestyle. In the 200IM, a person would switch strokes at each 50 at the wall. In the 400IM, they switch at the 100 point.

Relays: 200/400/800
Relays consist of 4 people and the distance is divided up equally. Once one person touches the wall, the next person is safely allowed to dive in without getting disqualified.

Pumpcake in a Bowl

As I said, I bought 15 cans of Pumpkin.  That means for the next month, I will be on a pumpkin making spree.  Today’s pumpkin adventure?

Pumpkin Pancakes in a Bowl
½ cup fiber one cereal
½ cup cottage cheese (I prefer low fat, small curd)
¼ tablespoon baking powder
¼ cup egg substitute (1 large egg)
½  cup canned pumpkin
Nutmeg, sweetener and pumpkin spice to taste

Combine cottage cheese and egg with blender.  You still want it to be a little chunky but not too much.  Set aside.
Combine fiber one cereal and baking powder and sweetner and blend.  I use my magic bullet.
Combine dry ingredients to wet ingredients and add pumpkin.
Cook on a griddle like a pancake.
I add all of mine to a bowl and add a dash of sugar free syrup and Greek Yogurt.

Relaxing Day 1

It was pouring rain this morning. I needed to get in a run before swimming.

What is a girl to do? I ran through the rain! I never run in the rain because I fear I’ll get too cold, but today I did it. I was rather proud of myself you know. I felt accomplished hehe. Not only did I run in the rain, I had a great run. I time myself every so often a certain running route, more or less so I can see if I’m getting anywhere. Today I shaved an entire minute from my best time. It’s about a five mile loop, so about 10 seconds per mile! It must have been the gigantic pancake from yesterday.

8:00 Breakfast between running and swimming. I had Hershey’s sinless dark chocolate pancakes.

I made the pancakes last night. :)

Saturdays are my most intense day for working out because swimming and running are so close. I have about an hour in between and then we go to the gym for an hour. Then we go swim. So in reality I have about 2 hours between actual running and swimming. I won’t lie-sometimes I kind of flounce around in the gym when I’m with the team.

Insert swimming 5000 yards of solid freestyle today. Today’s practice was rather boring. First, we started off with an exciting turns demonstration from our assistant coach. That part was rather interesting-although the pool was so chilly. Then the main practice today was 5000 yards of just freestyle.

3X200 free
5X200 interval free
4X250 interval free

Like I said, it was terribly hard to get through practice mentally today. I was freezing cold and my body was not agreeing as far as swimming was concerned.

1:00pm for lunch my boyfriend and I made clams, salmon, and sweet potatoes. The clams are stuffed with cheese and crab meat. I like them almost as much as stuffed mushrooms. I topped my sweet potatoes with a little bit of sugar free syrup and Chobani Greek Vanilla Yogurt. I’m collecting all my giant Greek yogurt containers and holding my coffee in them. They make great containers. Perhaps I’ll take a photo for the next blog.

Then off to a neighboring town where I went on a pumpkin buying spree. They had canned pumpkin and I ended up buying 15 cans…they are out near me boo. I also bought pumpkin scone mix and pumpkin spice coffee.

Then Aram and I went to Ponderosa steak house! I’m not going to lie to my blogging friends. I don’t like Ponderosa because it is a classy restaurant. I enjoy it because I can get a big juicy fatty steak. I like as much fat on the steak as possible and here is a place you can get it.

What is your favorite buffet style restaurant and why?

I enjoy Ponderosa when I’m feeling a giant fat piece of steak. I also like Golden Carrol.

Pancake Challenge and More

It all starts with a giant pancake-I swear. My housemates wanted to do the pancake challenge this morning (I was on the fence not sure how I was feeling) but decided to partake in it anyways. Aram and I go to the diner every Friday but it is nice to have more people go along with me. That is part of my problem-not being a social butterfly with all this swimming and running. Anywho-we went to the Diner, Aram, Kelley, Jen, Julie and I. Aram, of course did not get the giant pancake but the rest of us did.

Unfortunately-I was the only one able to finish boo. I got a nice mug this time. They also added my name to the Hall of Fame-I get to make a tally every time I complete the challenge hehe. I’ll probably end up doing it almost every Friday, just to get enough calories in. That sounds a bit awful but I love the pancakes and so how can you go wrong?

Signing the Hall of Fame

10:00-I had my sports psychology class. Aram is also in that class. I am one that would normally mind if my significant other is in the same class as me, however, this isn’t a class for either of our majors so I’m okay with it. I wanted it for my coaching certification and he wanted it for upper division credit. Today we got our presentation topics-out of all the luck…ours is about “Runners High.” That sensation you get after a run…the one I have right now! Ha.

11:00am-I went for a run with a teammate of mine-Bonna. She hurt her alkalis tendon and is trying to get back into things. We went about 5 miles, as she didn’t want to injure herself even more. She is on the road to recovery though, thank goodness!

12:00-Nap. I was tired and even coffee couldn’t stop me from this nap. It was really nice in my room today with the window open and the breeze coming in and out.

2:00pm-I had a test in modern algebra today. I think I did pretty well. At least I hope so.
During my test, I got rather hungry so I had snickers Marathon Bar. I’m glad my teacher was okay with that…I don’t think I would have been okay if I couldn’t eat ha.

Insert a short 30 minute run and swim practice here.
Not too bad today-5050 yards.

It’s family weekend at my college this weekend. That means the food is actually really good on campus (YAY). Today I had salmon, two artisan rolls, corn and a baked potato. My boyfriend and I also attempted to split a carrot cake. Neither us of were really in the mood for it I suppose, so it ended up going to waste.

I want to make some sort of baked good this weekend. Any ideas? I love chocolate, lemon and pumpkin. Muffins are my favorite. Anyways-if you have any ideas let me know. :)
